Since WandaVision's series finale on March 5th, the only content more pervasive throughout the fandom than plot hole debates is speculation over a second season.

Curiosity over a show's renewal status is common, despite studios usually greenlighting additional season(s) publicly before the prior ends. When such an announcement doesn't come, you can expect plenty of internet speculation and clickbait fueled by the desperate hope of mourning fans. Will Fleabag come back for a third season? The End Of The F***ing World was too good not to keep going, right?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has not always been kind to women.

The franchise initially focused pretty exclusively on white men and garnered so much success doing so that their argument for not featuring marginalized groups in more prominent ways was their fear of compromising their fanbase.

However, over the past few years, fans and actors have successfully advocated for films that focus on heroes from marginalized communities and feature them in more prominent, complex roles.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe's official debut television series, WandaVision, is probably my favorite entry in the entire franchise... for at least half of it. Even with the unenviable responsibility of kicking off phase four of the MCU (reported to consist of over 24 films and television programs), the show delivered a remarkably original premise and well-crafted presentation that stands on its own.

"Superhero" film and TV, particularly in the case of Marvel and Disney, has a reputation for being formula-driven, derivative, and "safe." Yet somehow, in explicitly imitating and referencing several of the largest television series in history, WandaVision managed to be unlike anything else.

WandaVision isn't your typical sitcom — unless, of course, you grew up in the 1950s, in which case it's on point.

Unless you've been holed up in a cave with no access to the internet for the past year, you know that the gimmick to WandaVision is playing off of classic sitcoms of the 1950s through at least the 1980s. For the doubters wondering if they'd be able to pull off an accurate homage to the great sitcoms of yesteryear, those worries were laid to rest quite handedly in the first two episodes.
