News of mass shootings, threats of nuclear war, and political and cultural unrest are inescapable these days.

The human brain isn't meant to take in such a constant stream of bad news. As a result, many Americans have become numb and pessimistic, hardly blinking an eye when we hear about the latest tragedy. It's not that we don't care—it's that letting every heartbreaking thing actually break our hearts is just too much to handle.

5 of the Best Films You Never Want to See Again

These films aren't the best for a date night.

Toni Collette in Hereditary

Many great films have a high degree of rewatchability.

We all have those films that we can experience over and over without growing tired of them. A two-and-a-half hour violent crime drama such as The Departed can be just as critically acclaimed and rewatchable as an uplifting story about survival and hope like Slumdog Millionaire.

That being said, there are many great films that you're glad you saw, but you never want to see again. These films lack a rewatchability factor due to their difficult subject matter, gruesome images, or long run-times. Twitter user Rose Matafeo posed this question on her timeline: "What is the best film that you never want to see again? or at least for a very long time?"

Here are our picks.

Schindler's List

Schindler's List (1993) Official Trailer - Liam Neeson, Steven Spielberg Movie HDwww.youtube.com

Schindler's List is a film with a devastating premise, and is absolutely a piece of art that everyone should see at least once. Schindler's List tells the story of Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson), a German businessman who saves over a thousand Polish-Jewish refugees from the Holocaust. It's a graphic and disturbing look at the Holocaust and it's not for the faint of heart. The film includes brutal executions and severe mistreatment of innocent bystanders. That being said, Schindler's List is a masterpiece and is absolutely worth your time.

Room

Make sure a box of tissues are nearby when watching Room. The 2015 drama stars Brie Larson as "Ma," a woman who has been held captive in a tiny shed for seven years. She lives with and raises her 5-year-old son Jack (Jacob Tremblay), who has never been outside the shed he calls "room." The first half of Room is so emotionally traumatizing and exhausting that it's hard to watch. Though the ending is uplifting, the emotional roller coaster you have to ride to get there won't leave you eager to see it again.

Hereditary

Hereditary is the type of movie that messes with your mind. It has so many WTF moments that its guaranteed to leave you speechless. The basic synopsis revolves around Annie Graham (Toni Collette) and her family as a mysterious presence begins to haunt them after a death in the family. Hereditary is a brilliant horror film that can mess with your overall well-being if consumed multiple times.

Requiem for a Dream

Requiem For A Dream - Trailerwww.youtube.com

If Requiem for a Dream is your favorite movie, then god bless your stomach tolerance for gruesome images. Requiem for a Dream exhibits how drug addiction negatively effects the lives of four characters. Their respective heroin addictions make them delusional and desperate until the point where they completely unravel. The strong imagery is memorable and powerful, but often difficult to endure. It's the definition of a "tough watch."

The Road

The Road (2009) Official Trailer #1 - Viggo Mortensen Movie HDwww.youtube.com

If The Road becomes an accurate portrayal of a post-apocalyptic world, then all hope may be lost for the future. The Road stars Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee as a father and son trying to navigate across a desolate America after an extinction event. It's well acted and fully captures how catastrophic events can not only crush one's morale, but instill fear in generations to come. But its also slow at times, depressing, and bleak, meaning its not exactly something you want to put on for a casual movie night.

Why Bad Movies Are Better Than Good Ones

Sometimes the best movies make the least sense.

Vampire's Kiss - Misfiling & the ABC's

One evening every month, film buffs from all over Boston flock to the Coolidge Corner Theater.

They arrive just before midnight, toting plastic cutlery by the handful. Some come in costume, long black wigs and ill-fitting suits. There's a fervor in the air, excited people preparing to share something wonderful. A few of them are new, dragged along by knowing friends. Most of them are seasoned veterans. If you listen closely, you might hear someone shout, "OH HAI MARK."

Brie Larson Reaches Badass Status in First Photos of Captain Marvel

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies Just Got Another Female Hero

SPOILER ALERT! But c'mon, the movie came out five months ago.

Another strong, independent woman superhero? Yes, please! This week's colorful, comic-esque Entertainment Weekly featured Brie Larson on their cover suited up as Captain Marvel. Equipped with fierce fists and a slight smirk, she's bound to be the most powerful star yet.

The costume seems to stay very true to the comics, depending on which one you're reading — I've mainly seen her with short hair because in my opinion, the long, blonde hair makes everyone compare her to Supergirl. Both are amazing, BTW. What I love most about the suit is that it doesn't comically — pun intended — emphasize her chest, which the Marvel movies have done a good job of.

Captain Marvel is introduced as a last resort after Thanos wiped out half of the universe in a twisted attempt to save some of the population before running out of resources. He firmly believed that this was the only option to save the world and that he was the only one strong enough to achieve his goal — thus also killing Gamora, his daughter, and Vision, who had the last stone in his forehead.

Before Nick Fury turns to dust — along with Spiderman, Doctor Strange, and many others, if you can remember the heartbreak — he beeps Captain Marvel in what looks to be a glorified pager. Thus, we obtain our awful cliffhanger for the sequel to Infinity War, colloquially named Avengers 4.

However, before we can satisfy our curiosity and longing for justice, Captain Marvel will have her own self-titled movie coming out in March — set in the 1990s, we'll get to see Samuel L. Jackson as a two-eyed Nick Fury, Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, and Crazy Rich Asians star Gemma Chan as some kind of green being.

"She can't help but be herself. She can be aggressive, and she can have a temper, and she can be a little invasive and in your face," said Larson to EW. "She's also quick to jump to things, which makes her amazing in battle because she's the first one out there and doesn't always wait for orders. But the [not] waiting for orders is, to some, a character flaw."

Larson has starred in movies such as Kong: Skull Island, Room, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. She has won Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role at both the Academy Awards and Golden Globes, along with many other awards and nominations.

Captain Marvel will come out on March 8, 2019 and the next Avengers film will be released only two months later on May 3, 2019.
