Whenever I watch an awards ceremony for the “biggest names in Hollywood,” I regret tuning in about 30 minutes in. It sounds like a great idea to watch The Oscars in theory, but in practice, it’s more agonizing than a low-scoring football game. Last night’s 95th Annual Academy Awards hosted by Jimmy Kimmel held us hostage and threatened to go on for almost four hours.

It is with an apprehensive and tired sigh that I announce: the 2023 Grammy nominations are out.

The Grammy Awards are music’s most exhilarating and disheartening night of the year. Year after year, we’re all forced to sit through hours of pomp and ceremony. At the end of it, stars are disappointed by losses and audiences are disappointed by the boring spectacle the show has become.

Today, Tems released her first EP, For Broken Ears.

The Nigerian artist wrote all the songs on the record and produced four of the six. Born in Isale Eko, Lagos Island, Tems spent her childhood living with her brother before leaving home to pursue her dreams.

After receiving two degrees and entering a marketing job, Tems gave up her 9 to 5 routine to embark on a music career. The release of 2018's "Mr. Rebel" was a breakout moment, and she soon emerged at the top of the Nigerian charts—and the rest was history.
