Less Judgment. More Progress. How The Mirror Saved My Fitness Routine
Now more than ever, I need to get my body moving. But the thought of going to the gym stops me right in my tracks. I can’t stand walking in and seeing everyone checking me out – my clothes, my sneakers, and of course, my body.
The worst part about feeling judged is that it gets in the way of the actual workout. Instead of focusing on my routine and really pushing myself, my brain is constantly thinking about other people.
I considered a personal trainer but didn’t want to shell out a ton of money and have the stress of trying to squeeze a few monthly classes into my ever-changing schedule. I continued to look for a fitness solution, but mostly saw home gyms with a ton of pop-up arms and benches – a hard no from me. Then I saw The Mirror.
The Mirror by lululemon is both a super-sleek mirror and an at-home gym that can be mounted on the wall or used with a stand. It has 10,000+ workouts and 50+ class types, ranging from beginner to expert, so it’s easy to try something new. I usually stick to basic HIIT and cardio workouts but loved the idea of dipping my toes into some dance or kickboxing classes.
However, it was an investment at $1,495, so I decided to give the gym one last shot.
I went after work and it was as uncomfortable as ever. Even though I was wearing my favorite outfit and feeling great about myself, I was still stuck in my head. I could tell people were watching me as I tried to warm up but I pushed on, grabbed a yoga mat, and rushed through a wimp of a flow.
On the way home, I thought more about The Mirror and its price tag. They offer financing, which brings it down to as little as $32 per month to go along with the $39 monthly membership fee. It was a tad more expensive than my gym membership, but I wouldn’t have to deal with the annoying commute or going at odd hours to avoid people. Plus, MIRROR offers a 30-day risk-free trial. If I didn’t like it, I could just send it back.
Once I got home, I ordered it! I decided it would fit perfectly in the living room since it only requires enough space to stand in front of the Mirror. As an added bonus, it would make the room feel much more spacious.
When The Mirror arrived, I was totally blown away. It looked incredible and was beyond easy to set up. All I had to do was create a profile and answer some basic questions about my fitness level and the type of workouts I’m into.
Before I jumped into their live class offerings, I took a quick Cardio: Bootcamp class. The Mirror gives me personalized data throughout the workout that is displayed right on the screen. Over time, I’m able to track my overall progress and health score.
Eventually, I took a live class, and my instructor, Katie, was amazing. She was super clear, talked me through every move, and even gave me a shout-out. The music selection was on point and if I didn’t like their choices, I could sync The Mirror to my Apple Music if I want my own playlist.
All in all, The Mirror made me realize just how much I wasn’t pushing myself at the gym. I was able to take the time to get into my movements, focus on my body, and not worry if other people were judging me. All that mattered was me and my workout. Needless to say, I felt it the next day. But those small twinges are sooooo worth it.
MIRROR workouts give me a full-body burn no matter what class I choose. The live classes push me even harder thanks to awesome instructors, live feedback, and a touch of friendly competition.
Now, the only person judging me is me! And I’m really starting to like what I see in The Mirror.
