We Compared LYMA ID², AG1 and IM8 – One Stood Out for Gut Health
Ever get to the middle of the afternoon and realize your stomach feels completely different from how it did at breakfast – heavier, more uncomfortable, and generally a little off?
That’s why daily wellness powders have become such a fixture in so many routines. One scoop can promise support for digestion, energy, immunity, clarity, skin, and longevity while combining vitamins, minerals, probiotics, greens, and more.
The problem? Plenty of good gut products are filled with fiber and well-researched probiotic strains. But not all of them nourish your entire microbiome and address what happens beyond the gut.
It’s hard to tell which one ticks all boxes at a glance. So, we looked closely at three premium options: LYMA ID², AG1 Next Gen, and IM8 Daily Ultimate Essentials Pro.

LYMA ID² Overview
We’ll be honest, when we first discovered LYMA, we were skeptical it would stand out enough to justify the higher price point. Then we looked closer at the science. LYMA ID² was formulated by longevity researcher Professor Paul Clayton, PhD, with ingredients and doses selected around published scientific research.
At 8.5g, ID² has the most dedicated prebiotic fiber of the three – and it’s four fibers of different lengths (IMOfibe®, PromOat®, chicory inulin, and FOS), chosen to ferment at different stages of digestion. That matters because fast-fermenting fibers are used up early, feeding only the start of the colon and leaving the far end under-nourished. Staggering the lengths keeps beneficial bacteria fed along the whole length of the gut.
While ID² has the lowest CFU count (3 billion vs 10 billion), CFU count alone doesn’t tell the whole story. They use ActiBio® spore-forming probiotics selected for their ability to withstand stomach acid. Paired with substantially more dedicated prebiotic fiber, ID² gives beneficial bacteria the fuel they need once they reach the gut.
ID² then adds Omega 3s (250mg of algae-derived DHA, 15mg of Oleacore® olive polyphenols) and a complete chelated mineral profile. This means ID²’s reach extends well beyond the gut (supporting brain, heart, skin, and cellular health), while holding every addition to the same standard as the core formula: properly dosed and in a form the body can actually absorb, not sprinkled in to pad the label.
AG1 Overview
AG1’s 75+ ingredients include vitamins, minerals, superfoods, antioxidants, adaptogens, and five probiotic strains. On the surface, it looks like a top-tier choice – until you look at what actually matters for the gut.
On fiber, AG1 comes up short: a 2g superfoods-and-prebiotics complex rather than a dedicated fiber blend. Because that 2g is shared across superfoods and prebiotics instead of being set aside as fermentable fiber, only a fraction reaches the gut as fuel for beneficial bacteria – well under ID²’s 8.5g. And with no multi-length design, whatever does ferment is spent early, leaving the far end of the colon under-nourished.
On probiotics, AG1 leans on variety (five strains) rather than survival. Its strains aren’t spore-forming, so more of them meet stomach acid before they ever reach the gut. That’s why a headline CFU count can look impressive on the label yet deliver less than it promises once digestion is accounted for – a big number means little if the bacteria don’t arrive alive, or arrive with little fiber to feed on.
For broad, convenient everyday nutrition, AG1 is a solid choice – but it’s built for coverage, not for the gut.
IM8 Overview
IM8 takes a similarly broad approach to AG1, combining 90 ingredients intended to support nine bodily systems. Its digestive blend includes 3g of prebiotic fiber, 10 billion CFU of probiotics, postbiotics, and digestive enzymes.
It’s a serious all-rounder. But gut-capable and gut-first aren’t the same thing.
The gap is fuel. IM8’s 3g of fiber is barely a third of ID²’s 8.5g, so while it carries more probiotic bacteria on paper, it gives them far less to feed on once they arrive – more mouths, less food.
And it’s not only how much fiber, but how far it reaches. Fast-fermenting fiber is spent early, feeding the start of the colon while the far end – the stretch most often short of fuel – gets little. A staggered, multi-length blend (like ID²) keeps fermentation going the whole way.
For broad support from a single powder, IM8 is a strong contender – but it isn’t built to feed the full length of the gut the way ID² is.
Final Thoughts
AG1 and IM8 are credible choices for broad daily nutrition.
But if gut health is the main reason you’re choosing a premium daily powder, LYMA ID² is our Editors’ Choice.
At $135 per month, LYMA ID² costs more than AG1 or IM8. But you’re paying for a more targeted formulation that combines gut-focused prebiotics and probiotics with broader support for energy, immunity, clarity, skin and longevity – rather than simply the longest ingredient list.
LYMA ID² offers a more targeted, science-backed approach to gut health. Its advantage isn’t simply one standout ingredient or the biggest probiotic number. It’s how the formula is put together: four multi-length prebiotic fibers that feed beneficial bacteria along the full length of the colon; resilient probiotics built to survive stomach acid and support a balanced microbiome; vegan DHA to support brain, heart and eye health; olive polyphenols for antioxidant protection against oxidative stress; and chelated minerals in absorbable forms that underpin everyday energy and immunity.
If your priority is the most comprehensive gut-first formula of the three, we would choose LYMA ID².
