The internet is divided over Sydney Sweeney’s latest brand deal. The blonde bombshell sure knows how to get the whole world talking! Whether her headlines are about going topless in Euphoria or breaking up with her long-time fiancé, Jonathon Davino, Sydney has the world hanging on her every word and gesture.

These days, it seems half the internet is cheering her on for selling her bathwater in her latest brand deal with Dr. Squatch. However, the other half of the internet is super pissed about it. Here’s what you should know about her jaw-dropping – even edgy – business decision.

Is Sydney Sweeney Reinforcing the Patriarchy?

Sydney posted in a paid partnership with Dr. Squatch a few months back, and fans went bonkers over it. She marketed men’s body wash while immersed seductively in a luxurious bubble bath. With a single glance, she locked eyes with the camera, drawing viewers in — and the response was electric.

For the most part, people thought the fun and flirty advertisement was brilliant. That all changed on May 29 when Sydney dropped a bombshell business update — revealing she’ll be selling her bathwater. Needless to say, it’s not exactly sparking the same level of love.

In her caption, Sydney wrote, “You kept asking about my bathwater after the @drsquatch ad… so we kept it. Introducing Sydney’s Bathwater Bliss! A very real, very limited-edition soap made with my actual bathwater.”

Her comment section is a hot mess!

  • “Your bills CANNOT be that high, girl. You are objectifying women. IT’S SHAMEFUL.”
  • “How incredibly low is this? A woman who cries about ‘being objectified’ objectifies herself for profit and male traction. Not only did you embarrass yourself by posting this, but you are also encouraging this to the young followers that you have, that it’s okay to objectify yourself for profit.”
  • Weren’t you crying about being overly sexualized? You literally set back women for at least a century! You’re the real-life Cassie.”

The third fan who chimed in, comparing Sydney to Cassie, is referencing the chaotic character Syd plays on Euphoria. Cassie’s known for being a pick-me girl who prioritizes male validation and attention above all else, including her own best friend.

Has Sydney responded to any of this backlash? Nope! And it’s highly unlikely that she will. One thing we know for sure is that Sydney is all about her coin. She made it abundantly clear that she’s dedicated to collecting a check and making sure her finances are in order, no matter what.

She once revealed that she does so many brand deals because she doesn’t feel her salary as an actress has ever been sufficient enough.

She told Glamour, “I come from a family where I saw my parents lose everything, and I am terrified of that. That fear will always be instilled in me. I’m a huge saver. I don’t just go and spend money. I like to invest. I like real estate. I like making, hopefully, smart choices with the money I’m making. But I don’t think I’ll ever actually feel comfortable.”

It’s obvious she deals with some financial trauma based on her childhood. But, as of this publication, Sydney’s net worth is a whopping $40 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Sydney’s pecuniary outlook isn’t all bad. Some folks completely support her for cashing in on the opportunity to make money for something as kinda weird as selling her bathwater.

  • “This probably wasn’t the best move for feminists in the world, but you deserve to be successful. Slay queen.”
  • “This works for me because the best way to beat the patriarchy is to drain these suckers of every dollar they have. Use their lust to drain their pockets!”
  • I can’t be the only person ready to order a year’s supply of this soap???”

With the internet split over Sydney’s latest venture, it’s anyone’s guess whether she’ll sign on for a similar brand deal like this in the future. As of now, other brands she reps on IG include Giorgio Armani, Samsung Galaxy, Bai Juice, and Kerastase Beauty—none of which have sparked even a fraction of the controversy of the Dr. Squatch skirmish.

Quick Update: The 5,000 bars of ‘Sydney’s Bathwater Bliss,’ made with the Hollywood heartthrob’s actual bathwater, went on sale Friday for $8 each — and were quickly snapped up by fans eager to lather up, selling out instantly.
