PREMIERE | Chris Cron debuts yummy music video, 'Fake News'

'Fake News' oozes baroque pop flavors

Chris Cron premieres a new music video today on Popdust. Called "Fake News," the song proclaims an incontrovertible, universal truth relevant in today's world: "That real love is always greater than fake news."

Once upon a time, Cron was the front man for the band Melee, under contract to Warner Bros. Finished with music, Cron moved to Tennessee, landed a job at the YMCA, and focused on his family. But music is hard to bury. A friend hooked Cron up with a music publisher, and all of a sudden he was writing songs, working with Craig Wayne Boyd, Kerrie Roberts, Finding Favour, Joel Vaughn, Joseph Habedank, and others. He auditioned for Season 11 of The Voice, and although he didn't get by the blind auditions, he realized he still enjoyed performing.

Since then he's released a handful of singles: "Never Tear Us Apart," "Atlas,", "Christmas I'm Not Ready," and "In It To Win It." And now "Fake News," featuring Daena Day.

"Fake News" rides a happy, peppy pop melody with a retro bounce, prancing and gamboling with lighthearted surface textures. Opening with crystalline plucking strings that give the tune a baroque flavor, when Cron's dulcet tenor enters, the harmonic direction alters to buoyant pop.

The harmonizing tones of Cron's voice with Day's imbue the song with balance and dimension, adding a tasty touch of happy-go-lucky caricature.

Divided into three visual facades, the video presents Cron as a serious-minded businessman and Day as a television news reporter, while a black-clad dancer pirouettes in the background. The contrast between the effervescent music and the seemingly detached aspects of the images provides a Monty Python-like send-up of the irrelevance of fake news.

"Fake News" exudes an upbeat, optimistic energy that's vivacious, fresh, and crisp. The bubbly pop melody fizzes with charm, while the vocal harmonies inject auras of chic sonic hues.
