Each year around December, excitement grows for reasons other than the holiday season. Yes, we all come together to celebrate the release of our Spotify Wrapped- and what a glorious, joyous time it is for many. Plus, it's a great opportunity to expose which type of person you are: an Apple Music user or a Spotify user.

Entrancing and magnetic, Naya Ali takes no prisoners.

"My mom was a single mom...I never really had anything given [to me], I always had to work or figure out a way to get whatever I wanted." Born in Ethiopia and raised in Montreal, Ali honed her lyricism at an early age, writing poetry as a teenager and eventually incorporating rhythm. Armed with lyrical dexterity and blustering energy, she has been on a quiet yet steady incline for the better part of a year. She is in the middle of her biggest tour so far, having recently performed at some of the top festivals in the Canadian circuit including Osheaga. Her debut single, "Ready To Go," garnered over 15 million views on YouTube, and she recently opened for Pusha T and Playboi Carti. "I just know that I am uniquely created and my potential comes from my own internal universe," she said. "That's true for everyone else on this planet...this idea of scarcity is a myth."

Ali's most recent track "Get It Right," is an ode to the seemingly boundless grit and faith Ali possesses. "I felt like I was trapped for so long in a state of mind that had me forget who I really was," Ali said of the track. "I had to break free and escape by killing a part of myself that I had outgrown."

You told Complex that you don't believe anyone is going to come and save you, and that you have to invest in your potential. When did you learn these lessons?

"It was when I realized that I have to take accountability for my own life and the paths that I take. It's safe to take the passenger seat, and let society or even the people close to us take the driver seat. [But we do that] so when things go wrong it's easy to place the blame externally. But when you are accountable, you take back ownership. I realized that after 2 University degrees, working a safe marketing job and doing everything that was expected of me, that I still had not reached my full potential."

Now being as busy as you are, how do you handle days where you feel exhausted or uninspired? What do you do to snap yourself back into action?

"I enjoy time alone. I take a step back and care for myself, do things that make me happy, watch different things that inspire creativity. I don't force myself to create. I take a day once a week where I re-align myself by being alone with my thoughts. I also started boxing."

You also mentioned that you're "not here to compete with anyone but yourself," but it must be hard in Hip-Hop to keep from comparing yourself to other artists. How do you stay focused on your values as a creative?

"I just know that I am uniquely created and that my potential comes from my own internal universe. That's true for everyone else on this planet..this idea of scarcity is a myth. It keeps us in states of fear and thoughts of not being 'enough.' Everything I'm doing is bigger than me, and looking externally for validation is only going to pull me away from my truest self."

Does anyone in your life in particular help to keep you grounded?

"The people around me keep me grounded. My mom taught me humility and compassion, and my friends are genuine and humble. They're my mentors, my manager and my team. I only surround myself with people that teach and inspire me."

Tell me about your new single "Get It Right." What was the creative process like behind this record? Did you know it was going to do as well as it has?

"The visuals are about breaking free from the 'sunken place'. It was my first time meeting Banx&Ranx, so there really wasn't a plan. We just went in and came out it at the end of the day. Just make sure to make the great music and trust that the rest will follow."

Talk to me a bit about Godspeed. What can fans expect, and how has the recording process been?

"With my last EP Higher Self, I showed just a couple of layers of myself. With Godspeed I'm revealing a lot more of myself as an artist - different sonic universes, more honesty, more melodies, versatility. It's about timing. Things moved super fast these past couple of years but I've waited my whole life to grow into the woman that could change her life in one year. I want to stress that it's all about timing, patience and trust in the universe."
