I was such a soda lover until one fateful dental diagnosis: six cavities. I was crushed.

Sure, I eat dessert, but we both knew it was the three sodas a day. I felt so ashamed, I decided to quit. Soda. Completely.

Diet sodas are often calorie- and sugar-free, but are equally packed with unpronounceable ingredients - I knew I needed something fun other than water that wouldn't be unhealthy.

My best friend from college, Jess, used to be my soda buddy - we were the only ones in the soda line at breakfast.

I sent her a text asking if she was still drinking soda, and she said tragically, she'd been forced to quit! I was so excited to complain about our mutual ex, but she didn't even miss it anymore. "Don't say that, I'm still in withdrawals!" Then Jess said she'd started drinking Hint water instead.

I was like "What? No, I'm not switching to water." There had to be a more exciting step from soda to H2O. She said, "It's flavored water - they have so many different fruit flavorings - you have to try cherry and watermelon." I was like "Ugh, fine, I'll try it," and she was like "Seriously no, I am obsessed, you have to buy it online, right now."

I was like "I am not buying something I just heard of." She insisted, "there's no sugar because they boil the skins of fruits and add it to the water. There are no preservatives or other junk and I love them. Also, when you buy online, you can choose which flavors you want." And I said "fine, fine, ok." I ordered a bundle that included watermelon and cherry bottles, on her suggestion.

Before it arrived, I admit, I drank two sodas....so delicious. What could ever replace these?

When my hint bundle arrived - right at my doorstep, I happened to be thirsty, so I stood there on my welcome mat and opened one (the pineapple) and tasted it. "Oh," I thought, "Hint water could replace my soda." It was so delicious - not sugary, and really, really good.

I took a look at the label, and there it was: no calories, no sugar, no diet sweeteners, nothing. It's wild to me that this has the exact same health benefits as drinking water, but with fun flavors and the convenience of delivery - a new obsession begins!

Now, Jess and I text about our Hint obsessions and can't wait for new flavors to come out. I've tried them all, and pineapple, watermelon, and cherry, are my favorites. I never imagined I'd find a healthy alternative to soda, and I definitely didn't think it would be water. Hint water travels with me everywhere now. I'm not going to lie, I sometimes miss soda, but I'm always thrilled to drink Hint water.
