The latest track off his sophomore album, Lenses, which was released in November, is a laid-back walk through heartbreak. The song balances electronic-pop and dark house beats as Shoffy's vocals slide in with casual melancholy: "I feel like this is a bad one / Racked up too many mistakes / Thought you were in for the long run / Now you're just another heartbreak."
The music video's quirky imagery is a perfect match for the song's simple charm. Disparate scenes, from a church altar to a tanning bed, show unconnected individuals dancing by themselves in cool lighting, as Shoffy's refrain remains upbeat but emotionally frank: "I know I said / We'll be fine / But that was then / And it's a lie."
Shoffy (a.k.a Alex Shofler) has impressed listeners with his blend of electronic, indie, pop, and R&B music since he switched careers from being a financial analyst to full-time musician.
