Can Laugh Tracks Make Anything Funny? A "Gutfeld!" Experiment

The new Fox News late night show strains the limits of what can be considered humor.

Last week Fox News introduced their latest attempt at late-night comedy: Gutfeld!

Previous forays into the genre have included the short-lived, criticially panned The 1/2 Hour News Hour — the network's response to The Daily Show — and Gutfeld's own show Red Eye, which aired in a 3:00 AM time slot, and The Greg Gutfeld Show, which ran on Saturday night's at 10:00 from 2015 until just a few weeks before the Gutfeld! premiere. But in a new weeknight spot at 11:00, Greg Gutfeld of The Five is officially up against the traditional late-night hosts like Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon.

Meghan Markle Should Absolutely Not Run for President

Would she be good at the job? Maybe. But the campaign would be a political nightmare...

This week author Tom Bower — who reportedly signed a six-figure book deal to write an unauthorized biography of Meghan Markle — spoke to British tabloid Closer about the Duchess' prospects in American politics.

While her husband Prince Harry would have to get his American citizenship to pursue political office — and could never be eligible for the presidency — as a natural-born American citizen, there would technically be nothing stopping Markle from running for any office, up to and including commander-in-chief. And Bower suspects that's exactly "where she sees herself going."

Absolutely No One Is Celebrating Rush Limbaugh's Death

At times like these, it's important not to remember what an awful person the dead guy was.

When an iconic figure dies, there's a certain amount of deference that is owed to the occasion.

Even if that iconic figure is someone you disagreed with — someone who has spent decades peddling hateful and dishonest messages in service of wealthy elites and his own ego — you can't celebrate someone's death. Even if that person may be more responsible for the decay of American political discourse than anyone else, there's still such a thing as respect for the dead.

Can Disney Fire Gina Carano From The Mandalorian for Being Depressingly Normal?

Gina Carano's political views are upsetting and ignorant, but they are not unusual.

Update 2/11/2021: Lucasfilm announced this morning that "Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future," adding that her recent social media posts were "abhorrent and unacceptable."

Reports have suggested that plans for Carano to have her own series spin-off from the Mandalorian were scrapped in November following previous controversial posts. Carano has also reportedly been dropped as a client by United Talent Agency.

Update 2/10/2021: #FireGinaCarano is trending on Twitter once again after Carano shared an image on TikTok comparing the social reprecussions of espousing pro-Trump views to the street violence that German citizens directed at Jews as the Nazi party took hold. The image closes with the question "How is that any different than hating people for their political views?" Which would be a great point if it wasn't nonsense.

How Chris Pratt's Politics Affect Your Life

Whether liberal or conservative, Chris Pratt's politics are apparently the most important thing in the world...

Update 2/4/2021: This week Twitter got after Chris Pratt again, unearthing some lame but fairly innocuous "jokes" Pratt tweeted in 2012, and combining them with some fake screenshots of tweets in which he appears to defend the use of a racial slur and says "muslims scare me so much."

Among the evidence that the offensive tweets were less than legitimate is the fact that one of them shared the exact time, date, like and retweet count as one of the bad jokes it was shared alongside of. The fake tweets were reportedly spread by a member of a Marvel fan community, and were perhaps not intended to be taken seriously. Nonetheless, Twitter's rabid desire to cancel Chris Pratt kicked in, and soon #ripchrispratt was trending.

What The Bernie Sanders Meme Says About American Politics

The popularity of the Sanders meme shows that many Americans are frustrated and exhausted, and not ready to be convinced by unsubstantiated platitudes about unity and healing.

His gloves, hand-knitted, made from recycled plastic bottles, visibly itchy — were folded on his lap. His eyes were narrowed, all of Washington reflected in them.
