Tina Turner Is Still Feeling Herself at 80 Years Old

"I'm happy to be an 80 year old woman."

Before Ariana or Demi, Lizzo or Beyonce, there was the indefatigable Tina Turner.

"As I'm about to turn 80, I'd like to think I've become wise in some ways," the Tennessee native told Rolling Stone. As a superstar who reached the zenith of her career when she was 44, she defies anyone who says there are no second acts in life. Surviving an abusive marriage to Ike Turner, the dead air of the 80s when American media overlooked black artists, and serious health complications (including a stroke and intestinal cancer), Turner is a modern icon of perseverance and triumphant talent.

Not many generation-defining artists make it to their 80th birthday, but even fewer artists can say David Bowie was one of their biggest fans. Turner credits one providential night in January 1983, when Bowie brought his upper tier management team to see Turner perform at the Ritz, as being her "Cinderella moment." She writes in her 2019 memoir, My Love Story, "That night at the Ritz was the equivalent of going to the ball (minus the part about Prince Charming) because it changed my life dramatically." In that memoir, she recounts the loss of her son to suicide, as well as her own suicide attempt in the midst of her abusive marriage. But upon the book's release, she told Oprah, "I lived through the hellish marriage that almost destroyed me, but I went on." She added, "Good came out of bad. Joy came out of pain. And I have never been so completely happy as I am today."

And today marks 80 years Tina Turner has been surviving and creating through every struggle in her life. As she says in her special birthday message to those of us who are not worthy, "How did I think I would be at 80? Not like this: I look great. I feel good...I'm happy to be an 80-year-old woman."

Male model Josh Kloss took to Instagram today to accuse Katy Perry of sexual misconduct.

Kloss, who co-starred alongside Perry as her love interest in the "Teenage Dream" music video, detailed the allegations in a series of long-winded Instagram posts. "This one time I brought a friend who was dying to meet her," he wrote. "As I turned to introduce my friend, she pulled my Adidas sweats and underwear out as far as she could to show a couple of her guy friends and the crowd around us, my [genitals]."

Many women flocked to Kloss's Instagram to accuse the model of clout-chasing and of disenfranchising the women of #MeToo. It's true that he uses certain phrases within his posts that seem to diminish others' experiences with sexual harassment (he referred to himself as a "prostitute" and described how the "fear" stuck with him); but even so, this wouldn't be the first time Perry has been accused of inappropriate behavior.

In a 2018 episode of American Idol, Perry kissed 19-year-old contestant Benjamin Glaze without his consent after he mentioned that he'd never been kissed before. While Glaze didn't feel sexually harassed, he later reiterated to The New York Times that "would I have done it if she said, 'Would you kiss me?' No, I would have said no...I was uncomfortable immediately." She made another contestant equally uncomfortable when she chose to address his looks after he described caring for his sick mother. "You're so hot," she said. "Only hot guys are typically named Trevor." Before he began his audition, Perry also said, "If you're not going to Hollywood, maybe you can just come hang out with me after." Perry then made headlines for flirting with another 18-year-old contestant named Johnny Brenns. "If a 32-year-old cougar would eat it up," was among her inappropriate comments. Viewers were quick to call out the double standard of Perry's behavior.

Then there was the singer's incredibly awkward guest appearance on "Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts" with James Corden. The premise was that Corden and Perry would ask each other questions, and if one refused to answer, they would have to nibble on a selection of gross-out food, like bird saliva or cow tongue. Corden, for some reason, immediately went for Perry's jugular, asking her to judge the sexual prowess of her ex-lovers. "Rank Diplo, John Mayer and Orlando Bloom," he said. After ranking them, she added, "If you're listening to me, gentlemen, I love you...and maybe I just haven't had enough time to have sex with you, so maybe we can make up that time."

While no one's calling Perry a sexual predator and Kloss very well could be clout-chasing, to dismiss the singer's strange and inappropriate behavior would be against the values of #MeToo. For now, the double standards of the movement exist in our periphery, but, as time goes on, the significance of abusing power will inevitably take center stage over gender. After all, both women and men can be abusers as well as victims, but that has historically shown to be a complicated conversation that we're not ready for.

Scott Disick

All you need to know.

Full Name: Scott Disick

Date of Birth: May 26, 1983

Born: Eastport, Long Island, NY

Occupation: TV personality, entrepreneur

Status: Single

Children: 3

If you're a fan of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, then the name Scott Disick more than rings a bell. The longtime partner of eldest sister Kourtney (although they're not currently an item), he's the "baby daddy" to their three too-cute-to-be-real kids. Known best for his destructive behavior and immature ways, Disick still has a way of using his boyish charm and sense of humor to hold his place in the family's collective heart. While it's unclear if he'll ever get back with Kourtney, it's evident that Disick is a doting dad and loves being part of the Kardashian empire. Here's more to know about the Long Islander who found his way to L.A.

Oh Lord…

Only a guy like Disick would find a way to get himself knighted. "Lord Disick" or simply, "The Lord" apparently sounded much more important than "Scott," so Disick used his knighthood for all it was worth. Obnoxious? Obviously. But who better to elevate his ego than the self-centered Scott Disick?

Proud Pop

As childish as Disick can often be, having three kids of his own has aided in his realization that life isn't all fun and games. Sure, he has a blast when he plays with Mason, Penelope, and Reign, but when it comes to caring for his kids, Disick has taken his role much more seriously as the years have progressed. It appears that their mom is the kids' main caregiver, but Disick is doing his duty as dad. As for the rest of the Kardashian crew, they respect Disick as part of their extended family and delight in his unquestionable love for his kids.

Longtime Love

They're not a currently a couple, but Disick and Kourtney Kardashian have been linked since 2006. He's a few years her junior, but it's probable that Kardashian figured Disick would eventually mature. Their relationship has had more ups and downs than a Six Flags rollercoaster, but somehow they managed to have three kids together and they still maintain a relatively decent relationship. Even with Disick's drunken stupors and Kardashian's claims she'll never take him back, many fans still have it in their heads that these two will one day live happily ever after. Heck, he has been around more than any other guy on the show! We're talking to you, Kris Humphries.

Scott + Sophia?

Sophia Richie (daughter of musician Lionel Richie) is Disick's current main squeeze. Pics of the two vacationing, canoodling, dining, and more flood the internet, so Disick can't deny the two have something going on. What's the big deal? Either the age difference – she's just 20, or her famous father. Does Lionel really dig the idea of Disick dating his little girl? Still, if they're happy and in a healthy relationship, Richie could be the recipe for a Disick 180.

What's Next for "The Lord?"

First, let's hope he decides he's no lord. Next, it seems like Disick is doing well, putting aside his playboy mentality, and becoming the man Kardashian always believed he could be. Perhaps he'll delve into more business ventures – he has dabbled in restaurants, supplements, nightclubs, and other revenue streams. Will we hear the pitter-patter of another set of tiny Disick feet? What's one more baby added to this ever-baby bumping bunch? Whatever Disick does, we're sure to see it play out on reality TV. Kris Jenner wouldn't have it any other way.
