Detergent is detergent, right?

We thought they were all the same until our staff started doing some research on the big and small brands with cult followings.

We know there are a lot of other important things to be worrying about right now rather than laundry detergents and comparing and contrasting detergents may seem mundane, so we decided to do some research for you.

Based on research and reviews, we wanted to look at these top favorites to figure out which was the best: MyGreenFills, Seventh Generation, and Tide.

Here are our findings:

MyGreenFills

This small green company offers something different: refills. They're an online retailer, so you get your first jugs of laundry wash delivered to your door. Then sign up for refills, so you're not producing more plastic bottles, plus it saves you a trip to the grocery store. We loved the idea, and the fact that they also boast potent formulas - their scented and unscented options, toxin-free laundry detergent (they call it "wash") only costs $0.14 per load compared to around $0.30 for big-name detergents. Affordable, green, and high efficiency - we love it!

Tide

Everyone knows the classic orange jug and has used it at some point, but when we started digging into the actual product, we were overwhelmed. There are so many different versions! With high-efficiency versions, greener versions, gentler versions, etc., we doubted the original was the best. Similar to the green Gain jug, there were too many options for us to give the brand a fair assessment. This is the most basic detergent.

One of our staffers is also freaked out by the blue - why is it so, so blue? The artificial dye isn't necessary at all. We did some research and found out that companies use a blue dye to trick consumers into thinking their whites & colors are brighter....sadly they're not.

Seventh Generation

One of the most well-known green cleaning companies, Seventh Generation has a line of laundry detergents that are free of dyes and synthetic fragrances. They have regular versions in scents like citrus and lavender, and highly concentrated versions that boast 66 loads per 23 oz. bottle. The bottle is also made from recycled plastic!

If you want a scent, they offer a scented formula that is not overpowering, yet perfectly pronounced by plant and essential oils.

Overall Verdict

Out of all the laundry detergent, we're loving the MyGreenFills Laundry Wash. It's high-quality and concentrated with no toxins, and is a lot more affordable than most other green options. Honestly, we didn't miss that "laundry smell" we'd grown up with - the unscented wash just made everything smell fresh and clean, and if we wanted more, the essential oil blends are absolutely lovely (those of us who prefer scented wash were pleased that it smelled so lovely without being overpowering).

Even though they don't have the name recognition of Tide or even Seventh Generation, we found that we actually preferred a smaller company - their customer reviews are excellent and with such a wide range of products, we're excited to try everything.

Their refill program is so convenient to get delivered right to your doorstep. Plus, their detergent really cleans, unlike a lot of other "green cleaners" in the space. This green company has something for everything: they offer hand soap, all-purpose cleaners, wood cleaners, essential oils, wool dryer balls, laundry wash and SO much more, all without parabens, toxins, or fragrances. Cleaning products have never been more important, and these ones are good for our homes and our planet.

We'd recommend MyGreenFills for anyone who wants affordable, green, high-efficiency laundry products delivered straight to their door!

Now that the new year is here, I want to make a conscious effort to do my bit for the environment and become more eco-friendly.

I have removed a lot of single-use plastic from my house, added some vegetarian meals to my weekly plan and I have even started cycling instead of driving whenever it's not too cold out

One thing that never crossed my mind was my laundry detergent- I just assumed every brand is the same blue goo that comes in a plastic bottle. That was until my friend was telling me about her new detergent, MyGreenFills. It's all-natural, non-toxic refillable laundry detergents. She said she hated buying the big plastic containers full of harmful chemicals every few weeks, so she made the switch.

I love the idea of anything refillable to minimize plastic and packaging. Plus, it would mean one less thing on the grocery list on my trips to the store, so I had to check them out.

MyGreenFills has so many natural cleaning products; glass cleaner, grease remover, wood, and furniture polish, and bathroom cleaner. They even have every possible laundry product - detergent, stain stick, dryer angels, machine cleaner, and even a brightening booster.

I love the idea of making this eco-friendly swap of daily essential items, but I was unsure if all-natural ingredients would work. Would they actually clean as well as the generic cleaners I'm used to? Now more than ever, I want my home to be as clean as possible and I love that fresh smell a deep clean leaves across my whole house. Was I going to get the same results from these products?

I tried a natural dish cleaner before and it left me super disappointed. Taking out a load of washing to see it still has stains would not be good!

But I was never going to know if it worked or not until I tried it for myself, and my friend loves it, so I ordered their Signature Scent Laundry Wash and their stain stick to test out the MyGreenFills products.

When they arrived at my doorstep I was so curious to try it out, that I grabbed all the dirty clothes I could find and put on a load right away. I used the stain stick on a grease stain I got on my fave pair of jeans before putting them in. Once the machine had stopped spinning I opened the washing machine door to get an amazing fresh smell, which I wasn't expecting.

I pulled all the clothes out and examined them. All of the stains were gone (even the grease stain!), and they looked and smelt completely clean. I left them to dry and came back for the final check, they felt amazing, soft, and not at all stiff.

When my husband commented on how good his old sweatshirt felt I knew my previous assumption about all-natural cleaning products was so wrong. After such good results, I decided to go and order more MyGreenFills laundry and cleaning products.

I am now a proud member of MyGreenFills membership and love receiving all my laundry and household cleaning products every month to my doorstep. It's so simple, in your first order you receive your laundry jug and cleaning spray bottles, and then every order after that they send you refillable packets of the concentrated formulas that you just add water to. It is so much less packaging, it's amazing. My recycling bin is a lot less full these days thanks to MyGreenFills.

The all-purpose, bathroom, and grease cleaners have made cleaning my home so much easier, and safer. And you can change your order at any time so easy to add in their extra items like the essential oils, Dryer Angles, Oxy Boost, and Enzyme stain remover whenever you need them. It couldn't be more convenient.

I was worried natural cleaning products wouldn't have the same effect but I was so wrong. Recently it's been important to keep everything clean, but it's also just as important to help the environment in any way we can. With MyGreenFills you can do both.

Everyone should join the MyGreenFills movement, you definitely won't regret it.

In recent years there has been plenty of talk about the environment and how our everyday activities, such as cleaning, are affecting it.

That's right, cleaning products can affect the indoor and outdoor environment--leading to pollution and waste.

"Green cleaners" have become fairly popular over the last few years, but are met with plenty of skepticism. People are wondering which of them actually work, what's more effective: traditional cleaners or green cleaners?

MyGreenFills has absolutely revolutionized the cleaning industry. Their Truly Free range seems to have every cleaning product you'll ever need - Bathroom Cleaning, Glass Cleaner, Everyday Cleaner, Degreaser, Odor & Stain Eliminator, Dishwasher, Handsoap, Wood & Furniture Polish, and even a Fruit & Veg Wash!

We decided to put MyGreenFills products to the test against some big traditional brands - Clorox, Lysol, Mr. Clean, and Pinesol. Here's what we found when we compared them:

Convenience

Obviously, all of the traditional cleaning products are readily available in any grocery store. Clorox, Lysol, Mr. Clean, and Pinesol are easily accessible for anyone.

That's not to say, however, that MyGreenFills is by any means inconvenient. If anything, their online store makes it easier - you can purchase from the comfort of your own home! From what we could tell, most traditional cleaners don't really sell online, and when they do it's through a seemingly untrustworthy third-party site

MyGreenFills has taken an extra step for convenience, offering a subscription model. So you can get your cleaning products delivered straight to your doorstep, exactly when you need them. Members even get a significant discount!

If you're a MyGreenFills member, you can sign-up for their refill service. In your first delivery, you will receive your bottle and concentrated refill that you mix at home with water, and order refills when you need them on your schedule.

Ingredients

Clorox, Lysol, Mr. Clean, and Pinsol have toxic ingredients that are bad for the environment, such as Sodium Hypochlorite, Sodium Polyacrylate, and Sodium Carbonate. Additionally, some of their ingredients can irritate your skin and some are even linked to cancer.

Truly Free by MyGreenFills ensures all its ingredients are non-toxic with zero harsh chemicals or artificial fragrances. The product is also hypoallergenic guaranteed to be safe. Comparing the label with traditional cleaners, their ingredients certainly look and sound a lot safer with no scary-sounding harsh chemicals present.

Price

The prices for each product are mixed, so it's hard to compare everything. With MyGreenFills, their products start at just $9 for members, and most are actually a 2-pack bundle at that price (but it's gonna run you $15 if you're not a member). A great thing about most MyGreenFill products is that they are concentrated liquids that mix with water, so they last very long.

A 90oz bottle of Lysol's Multi-Surface Cleaner goes at about $5. A 32oz bottle of Clorox All-Purpose cleaner is about $4. 45oz of Mr.Clean is just $3, and a 100oz bottle of Pine-sol Multi-Surface cleaner is about $6. But, MyGreenFills is offering 57% off their line of household cleaners, that's more than half off!

Effectiveness

We'll admit it, before we tried out MyGreenFills for this review, we were mostly using traditional cleaning products because we knew that they worked. Now, the main question is… do natural cleaners work?

Well, we don't know about all of them, but after trying MyGreenFills' products, we can confirm this brand is legit. We were pleasantly surprised to see how effective all of their products are without using a single harsh chemical.

Conclusion

So, of all cleaners tested, which one should I purchase? The answer is MyGreenFillsand it's no contest. Thanks to MyGreenFills, we've all been fully converted to environmentally conscious cleaners. These cleaning products work really well and won't harm you, your pets, or the environment. It's a no-brainer! Plus, their subscription model is super convenient and great value.

The Best Laundry Detergents

Do you remember the conscious decision to buy your current brand of detergent? Most of us grab the same kind every time, without even wondering why.

Is it the best? Does it matter? Is every detergent exactly the same?!

We did some research on the top detergent brands as well as some lesser-known ones - they do have clear pros and cons!

Through reviews and first-hand experience, we compared Arm & Hammer, Persil, Gain, and MyGreenFills.

Here's what we thought:

Arm & Hammer

This "powerfully clean, naturally fresh" detergent has been around forever. The classic orange jug has a Clean Burst™ scent and uses baking soda. Do all detergents use baking soda? Apparently, it whitens whites and makes everything softer, so you get to use less product! We adore high efficiency formulas.

However, we did wash one white shirt with a rainbow on it that came out with blue spots by the collar. Maybe the blue detergent soaked into a stain? We're not sure, but it was pretty upsetting. It rained on our rainbow. :(

Persil

One of our staffers is from France, and she grew up using Persil. It only came to the U.S. in 2015, but it's a cult favorite. We definitely found this to be a strong clean. It got out all our stains!

As for the signature scent, we're split - some people like it, and some thought it was too perfumy. This product also still isn't widely available, and when it's offered, it's sometimes not the most affordable option.

Gain

Why does Gain have one million different detergent products? We get that sometimes you want something for tough stains or sensitive skin, but having so many gives us less hope that one of them is amazing.

That said, this one works great, and they offer so many scents: Hawaiian Aloha, Apple Mango Tango, Thai Dragon Fruit, White Tea Lavender, Midnight Bloom…honestly, the formulas seem to work well, but with everything coming out recently on how questionable synthetic fragrances are it doesn't quite sit right.

MyGreenFills

We wanted to shake things up by trying an online brand - MyGreenFills is also different because they don't use any toxins or synthetic fragrances, and they offer refills. You get your first jug of laundry wash and then get monthly (or bimonthly, or every 3 months…) concentrated refills, so you don't have to keep lugging around heavy jugs full of 99% water, and you save money.

It's really efficient! It got coffee stains completely out of a white t-shirt. You only need a little bit, and it's around $0.14 per load compared to around $0.30 for most other big-name detergents. You're never locked into a subscription, but committing to something you've never tried can be hard.

Overall Verdict

The little guy won! MyGreenFills stood up to the formulas of the bigger brand names and even surpassed some. Since there's no dye, thickeners, or synthetic fragrance (though you can add essential oils), there weren't any remnants in our clothes, just that good clean feeling. It's also perfect for sensitive skin or allergies since there are no harsh chemicals, and it really, really cleans.

You can pause or cancel your subscription at any time, so if that's what's holding you back, we say give it a shot - getting it delivered to your door also means less big jugs in your shopping cart. We're also curious about the rest of their products! The customer reviews are really positive.

With MyGreenFills, you get to say goodbye to plastic, toxins, and stains, so that's why it's our favorite.

All types of cleaners have been flying off the shelves lately to avoid getting sick, to the point where people are trying to make their own versions.

All of the experts at the respected public health bodies agree that the absolute best defense you have is consistent hand-washing and disinfecting your home as much as you can.

In our quest to find a hand soap without harmful ingredients, we found MyGreenFills.

MyGreenFills' formulas are free from fragrance, dyes, thickeners, formaldehyde, fillers, glycol ethers, monoethanolamine, isopropanol, phthalates, perchloroethylene or "PERC", triclosan, quaternary ammonium compounds, or "QUATS", ammonia, chlorine and lye.

All of these ingredients can be harmful and are just plain unnecessary. To be sure you aren't at risk of coming into contact with possible carcinogens, take a look at your soap bottles for these ingredients.

Content with our hand soap, the rest of our kitchen needed an upgrade - who knows how many toxins we'd been absorbing through our products?!

We thought about our plates. Washing dishes in the machine every night with store-bought toxic cleaners can apparently leave residues that aren't safe. The chemicals in pods and other products end up coating glasses and plates, and when you heat them up again, in the microwave or with hot liquids, the chemical film can come back. And then you consume it.

MyGreenFills is offering a major sale on their Dishwasher Soap and their Dishwasher Boost & Rinse Aid - 63% off! This dishwashing bundle guarantees your dishes will come out sparkling!

Here's everything that's in it, according to MyGreenFills:

  • Sodium Metasilicate (Mineral-Based Cleaning Agent & Water Conditioner)
  • Sodium Carbonate (Alkalizing Salt)
  • Sodium Citrate (Water Conditioning Mineral)
  • Sodium Polyacrylate (Eco-Friendly Soil Anti-Redeposition Agent)
  • Tetrasodium Salt (Hard Water Softener)
  • and LOTS OF LOVE.

The excess of cleaning this season puts you into higher contact with the harmful chemicals in your soaps. It's also a much higher amount of plastic. If you are one to keep buying those plastic cleaner bottles, you definitely want to consider switching.

Instead of clogging up landfills with plastic bottles, MyGreenFills offer everlasting bottles and unique nontoxic refills that come in sustainable color-coded pouches (that are downright gorgeous).

If you make the full switch to their cleaners, you'll have a new bathroom, laundry room, or kitchen stocked to the brim with natural, sustainable products that really work.

You'll also be able to say goodbye to smells of alcohol, ammonia, and bleach. If you miss having a scent in your cleaners, you can always add a pure organic essential oil blend to your order. MyGreenFills offers six different blends that all have their own beneficial properties (and smell great!).

To stay healthy and diligent, you probably need more cleaning products, so it's time to make them natural and eco-friendly.
