BTS' "Black Swan" Is the Song that Keeps On Giving

The new "Black Swan" music video is incredible.

Big Hit

It's no secret that "Black Swan"—not to mention BTS' entire new album, Map of the Soul: 7—is a genuine masterpiece.

Up until today, most people assumed that the "Black Swan" Art Film performed by MN Dance Company, wherein the professional dance troupe performs a bleak, gripping, interpretive dance to the song in an abandoned mall, served as the song's only official music video. While it didn't feature the BTS boys themselves, it did a wonderful job conveying the conflicted emotion of "Black Swan" through dance.

But in line with the Jungian themes that inspired Map of the Soul: 7, no one can ever be fully understood through a single lens or interpretation. Thus, BTS has surprise-dropped a new "Black Swan" music video, this time featuring their own dancing. Conceptually, releasing multiple music videos for a Jungian-inspired song is a stroke of pure brilliance. And practically...yeah, this new "Black Swan" music video is absolutely incredible.

Throughout the new video, BTS alternates between white suits and black suits as a physical manifestation of the dualities between their public personas vs. their personal artistic passions. At various point, while dancing on the stage of an empty majestic theater, their shadows move separately with a mind of their own. As with all of BTS' best work, the new "Black Swan" music video exists in a space beyond words. By blending jarring visuals with passionate dance, BTS does real justice to the complex psychological concepts behind their music.

Through whatever personal and artistic struggles that led up to Map of the Soul: 7, BTS has come out on the other side stronger than ever.

Why I Can't Be Objective About Adam Savage of "Mythbusters" and His Sister's Rape Allegation

Both Miranda Pacchiana and her specific allegations are compelling and credible, yet I keep looking for holes.

Warning: This article contains graphic discussions of childhood sexual abuse.

Mythbusters host Adam Savage is a harmless goofball. Mythbusters host Adam Savage raped his sister.

Is it even possible for both of these statements to be true?

The former is too deeply embedded in my head for me to really doubt it after nearly two decades of watching Adam Savage build impressive and absurd toys, costumes, and machines—charmed by his gleeful enthusiasm for nerd culture and the build process. The latter is based on credible allegations that his sister, Miranda Pacchiana, has put forth in a new lawsuit made possible by New York's Child Victims Act.

After a less than exciting month in K-pop, this week's chart is absolutely bursting with new hits.

YG Entertainment's Akdong Musician are at the top of the pile, debuting at No. 1 with "Time and Fallen Leaves." The calculated seasonal ballad is the fourth chart-topper of the duo's short career.

Gaeko's "No Makeup" with Zion.T and HA:TFELT follows at No. 2, while Girl's Day's special ballad single, "I Miss You" enters at No. 4.

Rounding out the top five is boy band VIXX with "Error," which becomes their highest-charting single to date.

Seo Taiji's "Christmalo.win" debuts at No. 7, while his IU collaboration, "Sogyeokdong," is down to No. 11.

SECRET's Ji Eun arrives at No. 15 with her sassy new single "Pretty Age 25." Although she missed out on the top ten, the song has outperformed her last single, "Don't Look At Me Like That," which only reached No. 27.

Further down, SM Entertainment's new girl group Red Velvet debut at a so-so No. 33 with their new single, "Be Natural." It's a big drop from their first single, "Happiness," which hit No. 5 in August.

However, Red Velvet's performance is nowhere near as poor as Crayon Pop's new sub-unit Strawberry Milk, who debut at No. 93 with their J-pop-influenced single, "OK."
