Best Things We Bought This Month - April Edition

Oil cleansers, tote bags, and new shoes. Discover the best things loved by our editors

When I was in fourth grade, there was this boy who would always say “Happy White Rabbit Day” on the first of the month. And even though I just thought he was weird running around sayig ‘rabbit rabbit’ for hours on end, I silently say it to myself every time the first of the month comes around.

While I had no idea this was actually a real saying – see FDR and apparently even George Washington (am I the worst American?) – the phrase ‘rabbit rabbit,’ or wishing some a happy white rabbit day, is the equivalent of wishing them luck.

Now that May has officially come to a close, it’s time to wish each other endless rabbits and take a look at some of the best things our editors bought last month.

If there was ever a year to buy a practical gadget for your home, 2020's the one.

Yep, it's been a crazy year. For a lot of reasons. Offices closed and travel was canceled, but the tech innovation never stopped. Our editors have done the research on some of the best recent inventions in the tech world, and have narrowed it down to our 5 favorites that will enhance your at-home experiences.

If you'd like to find out what piece of technology is the best investment at the moment, and how to upgrade where you sleep, how you make coffee, and how you drink water, keep reading...

1. CleanPod UVC Sterilizer ($90)

CleanPod UVC Sterilizer

This handheld device sterilizes and kills germs on nearly anything with its UV light. From groceries to luggage, you can sanitize anything with it quickly. Not everything is soap or GermX-friendly, so this is a valuable tool to have at your disposal this year. Plus, it's better for the environment than chemical cleaning products.

2. The Pod Pro by Eight Sleep (From $2545)

The Pod Pro by Eight Sleep

Update: Get $500 Off the Pod Pro During Eight's Black Friday Sale

This mattress is on another level. With its dual heating capabilities, you can control the temperature on each side of the bed separately using their app. You can set temperatures between 55-110°F, so you and your partner can both be at your perfect sleep temperatures and it costs less than running your AC or heat all night. Plus their GentleRise Technology wakes you naturally up by cooling your body down gradually, instead of using a loud sudden alarm.

The mattress itself is comfy and great for your back. The five layers of premium foam create amazing contouring support and relief on the right pressure points. Plus you can monitor your sleep fitness on the app, which can be integrated with your GoogleHome or Alexa.

3. Mr. Coffee 10-Cup Smart Optimal Brew Coffeemaker Wemo Enabled ($69.99)

Mr. Coffee 10-Cup Smart Optimal Brew Coffeemaker Wemo Enabled

Another one for the tech geeks, this is a machine for the smart-home era. The Optimal Brew makes premium coffee, and supports a fully customizable 7-day programmable schedule. The coolest part is it can be integrated with apps like the Eight Sleep app, or the Belkin WeMo-connected intelligent device platform, so you can have your coffee brewing before you even get out of bed. This device is also easy to handle and clean.

4. Hypervolt Plus Cordless Vibration Massager ($349.93)

Hypervolt Plus Cordless Vibration Massager

Has anyone been seeing these cordless massagers all over social media lately? Us too. The Hypervolt Plus comes with five interchangeable heads so it's comfortable to use on any muscle. 2020 is the year where we bring outside luxury inside our home, and these massage guns are like having a private masseur on hand, which could be great after a home workout, or a long WFH day.

5. Larq Movement Water Bottle ($98)

Larq water bottle

As much as 2020 is the year to bring luxury home, it's definitely the year of cleanliness, and this self-cleaning water bottle is an impressive representation of that. Like the CleanPod UVC Sterilizer, the Larq bottle uses internal UVC lights to sanitize itself. These bottles are great to bring on long hikes, but mostly, they're great for peace of mind.

These inventions remind us that even in 2020, humans can't help but grow, adapt, and invent. It's been a tough year, and no one knows what lies ahead, but no matter what that is, these gadgets will make it better.

Our favorite pick of the bunch is definitely the Pod Pro by Eight Sleep. We're spending more time on a mattress than ever before, so why not get one that has amazing features like the Pod Pro? Out of any new tech invention we've researched, it's by far the best investment.

Black Friday Sale: Get $500 Off The Pods + $200 Off Pod Pro Cover + 20% Off Accessories with Purchase of The Pod or Pod Pro Cover.

Fashion and Technology Merge with the new LG SIGNATURE line at Bloomingdale’s and Lord & Taylor

LG's new SIGNATURE line matches style to convenience with their smart home appliances

When you envision window displays at iconic retailers like Bloomingdale's and Lord & Taylor, you probably don't picture appliances sharing the spotlight with high-end fashion. Well, the new LG SIGNATURE brand is teaming up with luxury retailers like Bloomingdale's and Lord & Taylor in order to help make that vision into a reality.

LG recently launched its new LG SIGNATURE line of premium appliances and is joining efforts with iconic luxury retailers to transform the typical appliance shopping experience to one that is backed by luxury and delight. This October, Bloomingdale's pulled back the curtain to their windows at their New York flagship store on 59th and Lexington, where nearly 100,000 people walk by each day. The grand, far-reaching glass windows feature mannequins in the latest fall fashion posed with appliances and pink back lights.

The pink lit windows reveal the crossover of three elements: technology, luxury, and charity. On first glance, the windows look like a typical department store display with mannequins in winter garb, but when you see the appliances they're leaning against, you realize they're making a statement far beyond fashion. Bloomingdale's understands that its shoppers seek and appreciate premium, top-of-the-line products, and that level of luxury should be translated to home appliances as well. Beyond the mannequins and the cutting-edge appliances, Bloomingdale's continues to honor its commitments to Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, supporting the Breast Cancer Research Association, The Carey Foundation in conjunction with The Tutu Project, and The Marisa Acocella Marchetto Foundation.

Each window display features a stunning LG SIGNATURE home appliance, all of which have connected-app capability using LG's SmartThinQ® and the polished, minimalist design you'd see in a futuristic Hollywood movie. The LG SIGNATURE line features appliances from an air purifier that could be mistaken for a robot, to a refrigerator with an automatic opening door. The entire Bloomingdale's display consisted of the following LG SIGNATURE products: LG SIGNATURE InstaView™ Door-in-Door® Refrigerator, LG SIGNATURE Double Oven Range, LG SIGNATURE HDR Smart TV, LG SIGNATURE Washer/Dryer Combo, and LG SIGNATURE Air Purifier.

As another part of the LG SIGNATURE retail footprint, Lord & Taylor unveiled four custom windows inspired by the sleek design of the LG SIGNATURE brand, built to convey a minimal and simplistic installation that puts the spotlight on the artistry of each appliance. The Lord & Taylor Fifth Avenue flagship location, a historic landmarked building in New York City, is heralded for visual window curations that draw tourists and residents alike to see the latest in art and fashion, making the collaboration a natural fit.

And these products are certainly stylish: the Instaview Door-in-Door Refrigerator has a mirrored glass panel that brightens with two knocks, as well as a foot sensor door that opens with one quick swipe of the foot - perfect when your hands are full with groceries or while preparing a meal. The Double Oven Range has the look and feel of a professional oven, but is a standalone piece. It heats from the back so that whether you're baking cookies or preparing steak, the temperature is more evenly dispersed from top to bottom, when compared to a traditional oven. The TV is so mind-blowingly thin that it looks like it's part of the wall, boasting a panel as thick as two stacked credit cards. The Washer/Dryer Combo has the capacity to be synced with an app on your smartphone so that you can set a timer and control the settings remotely. The air purifier is an all-in-one air filter and humidifier, which displays air quality through a simple color ring (green is good, red is bad), and uses a combination of atomized and UV LED treated water to disperse the right amount of moisture into a room.

With the LG SIGNATURE Collection, LG has found a way to seamlessly combine forward-thinking form and futuristic function. Besides the beautiful aesthetic of the products, what makes the LG SIGNATURE line stand out is its state-of-the-art smart technology. The SmartThinQ® technology merges the necessity of home appliances with the upscale functionality of high-tech. Not only has LG SIGNATURE found a way to make chores easier, but by integrating the tech with an app on your phone, you're now able to maintain your home from virtually anywhere. With tech like that, one can only assume that the shopping experience would also be an exceptional experience.

The home should not only be a place of comfort, but a setting for appliances that make life more convenient and enjoyable. Appliances are an investment, one of the most expensive after a home or a car. So why shouldn't the experience be treated as such? LG recognizes that appliances are a necessity, and the shopping experience should be an enjoyable one. Pairing connected home appliances with sleek, modern fashion, LG SIGNATURE high-end retailers are revolutionizing the way we view smart technology in the home and is daring to propel us into the future.
