Bland tofu and overcooked limp vegetables are not the reality of a vegan or plant-based diet anymore. There's so much more delicious variety to choose from now! Trying a plant-based diet can actually introduce you to new foods that you might've never tried before.
A vegan lifestyle strictly removes all animal products like red meat and dairy products from your diet, whereas eating plant-based does not mean you can't eat meat it just means you favor more plant-based foods. It means your meals are mostly plants: vegetables, whole grains, and fruits along with beans, seeds, and nuts. (And honey!; a non-vegan plant-based favorite.)
The plant-based diet has become very popular lately with many people wanting to find new ways to become more eco-friendly, aside from recycling and reducing their use of plastic. Eating less meat is one of the most impactful things you can do as an individual.

The positive environmental impact isn't the only reason people are switching, there are also many health benefits from eating plant-based meals. Plants have essential nutrients that you cannot get from other foods. The vitamins and minerals, phytochemicals, and antioxidants in plants help keep your cells healthy and your body in balance. This helps to boost your immune system, neutralizes toxins from pollution, bacteria, viruses, and reduces inflammation throughout the body and can remove free radicals in the body.
Plants contain a lot of fiber, which is so important to have in your diet, particularly to maintain a healthy gut. Fiber ensures you are better able to absorb the nutrients from food, it can lower cholesterol, stabilize blood sugar, and it's great for good bowel management. As plant-based diets focused on whole foods that are unprocessed it helps maintain a healthy weight.
There are so many reasons to try a plant-based diet but still, people stumble and find it hard to fully commit. Like every lifestyle change, it can seem daunting and complicated. You need to research new foods and then recipes on how to cook them properly and you have to make sure you are still getting a balanced meal. For plant-based newbies and for people who have got into a rut with their plant-based eating it can seem like too much effort.

Happy birthday to the world's biggest genre
On this day in 1973, Clive Campbell, the Jamaican-American "selector" known as DJ Kool Herc, hosted a "back to school jam" at 1520 Sedgewick Avenue in the Boogie Down Bronx of New York City.
Armed with a booming sound system and reggae beats, Herc– a shortened nickname for "Hercules"– commanded insatiable audiences across the South Bronx with his unique looping technique called the "Merry-Go Round." "[I knew that] they were waiting for this particular break," Herc later said, "and I got a couple of records that got the same break up in it. I wonder how it would be if I put them all together."

3 Habits To Kick In 2020 (It Might Be Easier Than You Think!)
This year has really made me become aware of a lot of my bad habits. Over the last few weeks, I've decided I need to get my act together and get rid of these habits once and for all.
So I came up with 3 goals, and I've found something that will support me to achieve all 3. I want to be healthier and more mindful in my eating and food purchasing habits, so I'm signing up for Splendid Spoon.
They send vegan and nutritious low-sugar low-calorie soups, smoothies, and grain bowls to your door, so it takes all the inconvenience out of eating more mindfully.
If deep down you know it's time, here are the top 3 habits you need to quit in 2020:
- Stop Overspending
Anyone else's 2019 bank statements look like a crime scene? Who buys this many paper towels?! When you don't plan, you always spend so much more money for convenience, I've realized. That means buying a new umbrella mid-downpour because you forgot to check the weather or splurging on holiday makeup even when you've got a pound of unopened glitter in your bathroom. Becoming organized, setting a weekly budget, and planning for the next day is going to save you so much money in the new year,
2. Stop Food Waste
Just so I don't have to look at another rotten onion in my fridge, I need to start learning how to cook my produce before it goes bad. Americans waste on average nearly a pound of food per day. That's so much!!!
If you plan your meals accordingly, or order from a service that sends individual meals to you, you'll stop aspiring to cook 3-course meals and then throwing out the ingredients 2 weeks later when you realize that was impossible.
3. Eat More Plant-Based Meals
I could never give up my grandma's meatballs, but I definitely could cut back on the amount of meat and dairy I consume. Proud flexitarian over here.
Although soy and "impossible" faux meat options can be great alternatives, there's plenty of protein and satiating nutrients to be found in food mostly derived from plants.
The three biggest issues in Western diets are the high amount of sodium, the lack of whole grains, and the lack of fruit, which can all be remedied by eating with a plant-based mindset.
Again, you don't have to go vegan! But a diet rich in plants has amazing benefits for your body.
Because of my unflattering track record when it comes to sticking with my goals, I ordered Splendid Spoon to help me tackle these habits. I would've fallen on my face without this easy to follow program. With pre-made individually packaged meals delivered right to my door, it's so easy to say no to takeout, never overeat thanks to their portion-controlled servings, and eat plant-based (of course).
I'm never bored and always full with Blueberry Coconut Cinnamon Acai Smoothies and Mexican Chili with Ancho peppers and Chipotle spice. If you need to tackle your goals around eating healthier or spending less money, Splendid Spoon is the way to go.
