Met Gala 2025: The Best, Worst, and Most Confusing Looks of the Night
Met Gala 2025 Theme: “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” | Dress Code: “Tailored for You”
Fashion’s biggest night returned to the steps of the Met with a bold, deeply celebratory theme honoring Black dandyism, personal style, and centuries of sartorial expression. With a theme like “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, expectations were high—and the stars delivered. Well… some of them. Others? Not so much.
The Popdust team spent the night glued to our screens debating every outfit in real-time, and here’s who—in our humble opinion—nailed it, those who confused us, and a few we wish had just stayed home and steamed their suits.
⭐ Best Dressed: The Assignment Was Assigned and Delivered
Jenna Ortega
Jenna gave us a literal interpretation of “tailor-made,” with a suit crafted entirely out of tailoring tape. Yes, like the measuring kind. It could’ve gone gimmicky, but she made it fashion. A sharp, funny, fashion-nerd flex.
Teyana Taylor
Teyana never misses. She embodied the richness and swagger of the theme with bold patterns and texture. She might’ve had the best interpretation of modern Black dandyism all night.
Colman Domingo
Come for the Valentino cape, stay for the quiet power. As co-chair, Colman had pressure—and he proved once again why he’s one of the most stylish men in Hollywood.
Jodie Turner-Smith
Jodie combined 1800s equestrian realness with editorial elegance. The result? A lesson in historical glam.
Coco Jones
Coco looked like royalty. Sharp tailoring, gorgeous silhouette, and nods to legacy—she made it look effortless.
Cardi B
Tailored—but make it Cardi. Sculpted and cinched to perfection, she brought drama and detail. She always understands the assignment.
Lupita Nyong’o
Lupita gave us smooth tailoring with celestial accents, all while staying in her signature lane: red carpet goddess.
Dua Lipa
Cool, clean lines, with just enough edge. Dua balanced modern tailoring and elegance beautifully.
Barry Keoghan
Barry leaned into his signature oddball charm with a custom suit that was playful, sharp, and full of character.
Worst Dressed: Did They Read the Theme?
Hailey Bieber
Beautiful girl, boring outfit. A black blazer over sheer tights? Hailey looked like she dipped out for a press junket—not the Met.
Halle Berry
We love Halle forever, but this was just too much. The crotch cutout took tailoring into “oops” territory. A miss.
Nicole Kidman
Tailoring? Where? Nicole’s look was minimalist to the point of invisibility. It wasn’t Met-worthy—it was brunch.
Sam Smith
We expected eccentric elegance from Sam. We got something… shapeless? Their outfit was more “confused baroque villain” than tailored icon.
Charli XCX
Charli’s barely-there look with exposed undergarments just didn’t mesh with the structure and spirit of the theme. Not her night.
Amelia Gray
She’s been high-fashion hot lately, but this look felt too editorial and not enough theme. A reminder that shock ≠ substance.
The “Maybe?”s: Hits, Misses, and Head-Scratchers
Janelle Monáe
Was it genius or glitch? Janelle’s optical illusion look dazzled in photos, but in motion it felt like a TikTok filter IRL. We’re still processing.
Sabrina Carpenter
From the waist up, glam perfection and we love the burgundy color on Sabrina. From the waist down… we think something like bloomers would’ve tied this outfit together. Balletcore meets tailoring, but it needed a few more inches of fabric in our opinion.
Kendall Jenner
Kendall looked stunning, but her take on the theme felt like an afterthought and a little bit boring. We would’ve loved to have seen her in something more dramatic and edgy.
Megan Thee Stallion
Mega glam, but did it align with the theme? Megan looked amazing, but it lacked the menswear twist or dandy homage.
Damson Idris
Sharp suit, yes. Memorable? Not really. Damson looked dapper, but the reveal just didn’t make sense to the theme.
Joey King
Tim Burton meets Savile Row. A little spooky, a little stylish—but we couldn’t tell if we were enchanted by Joey or just confused.
Jeremy Allen White
Jeremy did “guy in suit” well. But at the Met Gala, that’s not enough. Where’s the tailoring narrative? Give us a story, Carmy!
Final Thoughts
The Met Gala isn’t just a red carpet—it’s a fashion thesis. And in 2025, some celebs turned in masterworks, while others submitted blank pages. Whether they slayed or confused, one thing’s clear: we’ll be talking about these looks all year.
