Can Laugh Tracks Make Anything Funny? A "Gutfeld!" Experiment

The new Fox News late night show strains the limits of what can be considered humor.

Last week Fox News introduced their latest attempt at late-night comedy: Gutfeld!

Previous forays into the genre have included the short-lived, criticially panned The 1/2 Hour News Hour — the network's response to The Daily Show — and Gutfeld's own show Red Eye, which aired in a 3:00 AM time slot, and The Greg Gutfeld Show, which ran on Saturday night's at 10:00 from 2015 until just a few weeks before the Gutfeld! premiere. But in a new weeknight spot at 11:00, Greg Gutfeld of The Five is officially up against the traditional late-night hosts like Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon.

How Celebrities Have Been Affected by the California Wildfires

As celebrities begin to return to the homes they evacuated, they're giving their fans a look at the damage.

Los Angeles Times

The wildfires currently blazing through California have become the deadliest in a century, claiming 59 lives, according to Time. Flames from the Camp Fire north of Sacramento and the Woolsey Fire in Los Angeles have destroyed over 200,000 acres, and continue to burn. Over 100 people are reportedly missing, and thousands have been displaced. Even as firefighters expand containment areas, residents now face respiratory-damaging air contamination, potentially disastrous mudslides, and even a norovirus outbreak. As celebrities begin to return to the homes they evacuated, they're giving their fans a look at the damage.

Here are some of their stories.

On November 9, Charlie Sheen tweeted that he was unable to reach his parents, Martin and Janet, during the chaos as he and other Malibu residents were ordered to evacuate their homes. Martin was later tracked down in Zuma Beach by a local Fox News affiliate. The elder Sheen used the opportunity to address his children during the station's broadcast and let them know that he and his wife were out of harm's way, though he could not say the same for their Malibu home.

Gerard Butler took fans on a tour of his incinerated neighborhood, which he referred to as "a war zone," via Instagram. The actor, visibly upset in the two videos he posted, urged his followers to donate to fundraisers that support those across the state who face a long rebuilding process.

Miley Cyrus posted before and after photos of the home she shares with actor Liam Hemsworth on Wednesday, highlighting the stark contrast between a happy dog on her porch and an incinerated pile of rubble. Cyrus also tweeted that her pets were unharmed, as well as a link to the organization she founded, the Malibu Foundation, which offers crisis support in the community.

Guy Fieri offered his expertise when he surprised Butte County first responders with dinner.

Comedian Whitney Cummings stepped in personally to check on Stanley the Giraffe, a beloved and internet-famous resident of Malibu Wines, a winery that also houses horses, cows, and other farm animals.

Other celebrities like Sandra Bullock, Ellen Degeneres, Rob Lowe, Lady Gaga, and more are helping by making substantial donations to recovery relief organizations, distributing food and water to firefighters, and even delivering pizza to evacuation centers.

Charlie Sheen Doctor Claims He Has Cured HIV With Goats Milk

Charlie Sheen came off his HIV meds in order to be treated by a doctor who claims to have cured whole countries of HIV by using a goat's milk treatment.

The quack doctor, Dr Samir Chachoua, is not licensed to practice medicine in the US, yet somehow managed to persuade the 50 year old actor to come off his legitimate HIV medication that had taken the detection of HIV in his blood right down to undetectable

Charlie Sheen Today Show —The Star Owns His HIV Status

During an interview Friday night with Bill Maher, Dr Chachoua claims that Sheen was "dying" (mainly as a result of his meds) when he met him and that not only has he "cured" Sheen but also the whole country of Comoros (an island off the East coast of Africa) of HIV in 2006 by using the goat's milk vaccines he has developed.

Sheen had complained about the numerous side effects (including migraines and 'poo-poo' pants) of the traditional meds and Chachoua claims that all those side effects disappeared the minute he started the goat's milk therapy—and that his liver went to normal levels. He says that the CAEV virus in the milk of arthritic goats "destroys HIV and protects people who drink it for life" and that Sheen was "the first adult in history to go HIV negative."

Fake Doctor Arrested For Shoving Thermometer Up Nurse’s Bottom

The controversial doctor who practices in Mexico, appeared on the HBO show Real Time and didn't get much of a grilling at all from a clearly admiring Maher—in actual fact the interviewer was impressed by a contentious transfusion stunt that Chachoua had pulled.  In a shocking episode of The Dr Oz show aired in January, Sheen spoke  about how he had abandoned his traditional medication in favor of the unlicensed doctor's program.  On that show, Chachoua claimed that he was so confident of the effectiveness of his alternative treatment, he actually injected himself with Sheen's blood.

Maher said;

"Dr Oz said that is very inappropriate.  What I though was that's confidence."

Sheen had spoken to Dr Oz about the treatment saying;

"I've been off my meds about a week now.  I feel great.  Am I risking my life? So what? I was born dead.  That part of it doesn't phase me at all.

I didn't see it as Russian roulette.  I didn't see it as a complete dismissal of the conventional course we've been on.  I'm not recommending that anyone—I'm presenting myself as a type of guinea pig."

However he then admitted to Dr Oz;

"I had been non-detectable, non-detectable and checking the blood every week and then found out the numbers are back up."

So the real question that Maher needed to grill Chachoua on in-depth, was the fact that Sheen left Mexico as soon as his numbers started rising, and that he restarted his conventional meds literally on the plane home.

Funnily enough, Chachoua side-stepped that question, and infuriatingly, Maher allowed him to.

Burt Reynolds Charlie Sheen Angelina Jolie

Burt Reynolds appeared on Loose Women today, which is the British equivalent of The View, and had a whole heap to say about his fellow Hollywood actors.

Watch This Morning’s Truly Tragic David Cassidy Drunk Bankruptcy Interview

The 79 year old certainly didn't hold back when talking about Charlie Sheen and his recent revelation that he is HIV positive.  Interviewer Ruth Langsford had mentioned the rumors that were running rife in the 1980s about Reynolds' frail appearance and health, and asked if the Boogie Nights actor felt sympathy for what Sheen is going through now.  It's fair to say that she and the live studio audience were fairly stunned by his response.

"He deserves it.  He misbehaved badly.  Very badly.  But you know when you're that age, it's tough.  All those things are coming at you and it's difficult."

Reynolds was at great pains to stress what a decent guy Martin Sheen, Charlie's father is, and what good friends they are—but he certainly did not reserve any sympathy for Charlie.

"He's getting what he deserves.  If you're going to misbehave like that, they're going to get you."

Wow!  To be honest, generally he is just voicing a fair proportion of the public's viewpoint—that Charlie played with fire and got burned, but it sounded pretty heartless the way Burt said it.  There's also a slight element of that old adage, "people in glass houses....".  Is Reynolds as unsympathetic and brutally frank about his own spiral into addiction, bad investments, debts, wife-beating, divorce and bankruptcy?

It was a pretty awkward moment to say the least, but Burt was on a roll. He then went on to discuss his good friend Jon Voight's relationship with his daughter Angelina Jolie and said that Jon doesn't deserve the way Jolie has treated him.

Bearing in mind how notoriously private 40 year old Jolie is about her relationship with her father, she must have been thrilled to hear Reynolds repeat an anecdote about when she was just ten years old. Apparently she said and did something in front of Reynolds that was so shocking, he warned Voight that "you're in big trouble, she is going to be wild".

He seems to completely overlook the years of humanitarian work and the philanthropy of the more mature Jolie. Co-host Coleen Nolan pointed out that she thought father and daughter had reconciled now, but indiscreet Burt said "she still has moments".

It was certainly a weird, stilted, awkward interview that never recovered from the Sheen statements.  As one audience member told The Sun;

"The insensitivity of the man was unbelievable, and several people in the audience were sure his remarks would be edited out."
