“‘82 Chevy’ is really about the way certain memories stay with you, even when you’ve completely moved on from the person or the relationship they came from,” Dasha explained about the song. “There are these little things you remember: the smell of a truck, the song playing through the speakers, the way you felt sitting next to that bad idea of a man, and somehow those details become a part of you forever. I think every relationship leaves a little piece of itself behind, and that doesn’t have to be a bad thing.”
The song captures the feeling of being young and completely caught up in someone. Set against late-night drives in a baby-blue Chevy, Dasha focuses on the tiny details that make a memory permanent, including the smell of the leather, the music coming through the speakers, what you were wearing, and the feeling of being closer to someone than you’d ever been before.
“Even finding the perfect truck for the video felt like one of those full-circle moments,” Dasha says. “My dad literally found this blue Chevy by walking around my hometown, knocked on the owner’s door, and it turned out to belong to a mom who’d had it since she was in high school and whose daughters were already huge fans of mine. It felt like the universe found the song’s perfect truck for us.”
That sense of full-circle timing feels especially fitting for Dasha right now.
