5 Shaving Tips from a Brown Box

My friends have been talking to me about their Harry’s razors, and pictures keep popping up on my Instagram of their new Harry’s shaving sets.  Everyone was so excited about their Harry’s razors, something I never felt about the Gillette sitting on my bathroom sink.  So I decided, why not, let’s give it a shot.

I went to Harry's website and clicked through their website to find out more.  At their price point, you could imagine I was a little skeptical, but Harry’s makes their razors in a German factory that they own. This allows them to focus on their craft and cut out the middleman – explaining their capabilities in quality and value.  I ordered what was called the Truman Set in “Total Orange” for $15, a good deal including all the supplies needed for one month of shaving.

When the brown Harry’s box arrived on my doorstep, I opened the package and found a razor, a bottle of foaming shave gel, three 5-blade cartridges, and a convenient travel case.  The quality was just as everyone said, the handle was weighted perfectly for my hand and the blade was well constructed and exceptionally sharp.  I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by a great little fold-out with super helpful tips to a better shave.  Because I actually got one of the best shaves ever, I figured I might just want to share them verbatim:

  1. Introduce your hands to our face and get acquainted with your beard.  Pay attention to which way your hair grows.
  2. Rub cream or gel onto your face.  Then do nothing – seriously.  Let it sit for 1 to 2 minutes, and it will magically soften your beard (whispering a love sonnet while you wait is optional).
  3. It’s important that you shave with the grain and stay with it everywhere.  Then, to achieve a level of smoothness similar to your face in the fourth grade, go lightly against the grain.
  4. Gently splash cold water on your face and pat dry with a fluffy towel.   Then, refresh your skin with a dollop of after shave.  Give the guy in the mirror a wink.  You look great.
  5. Remember – slow and steady wins this shave.

Seriously, try these tips out.  I got a closer, more comfortable shave than I ever have before, and I’m a Harry’s believer, even if Roger Federer doesn’t use the same razor as me.
