Grimes Is Selling a Piece of Her Soul, Because of Course She Is

You can bid on a legal document that grants you ownership of a percentage of Grimes' soul.

Grimes

If you're feeling particularly soulless as of late, you're not alone!

Grimes, who birthed both a studio album and her first son earlier this year, isn't letting a world in shambles keep her from Grimesing on. She's now dabbling into fine art too, making her debut in simultaneous online exhibitions on Gallery Platform Los Angeles (May 28 through June 3) and Maccarone Los Angeles (May 28 through Aug. 31). The show is called Selling Out and features a piece also called "Selling Out" that contains part of Grimes' soul.

"I see myself as a visual artist first and foremost, and I've always felt strange that people know me for music," Grimes told Bloomberg, describing her style as "edgy-looking, anime-horror." The general public can place bids on "Selling Out," which is a legal document that guarantees the buyer a percentage of the artist's soul.

"I didn't want anyone to buy it, so I said we should just make it $10 million and then it probably won't sell," Grimes added about how she ultimately decided to roll with the idea. "Also, I really wanted to collaborate with my lawyer on art. The idea of fantastical art in the form of legal documents just seems very intriguing to me." Very bold of her to put her worth in the hands of the public!

This marks the first time Grimes has officially sold her visual art. Her fifth studio album, Miss Anthropocene, arrived last February, and her son with Tesla founder Elon Musk came shortly after. The possible cyborg child already received its first update.
