Loose Buttons Fight Against Mundanity with "Fell Into a Hole"

The New York rock band's debut album comes out early next year.

What happens when the monotony of everyday life creeps up on you, after you thought you were doing everything to avoid it all along?

That's a genuine concern for the boys of Loose Buttons, a New York quartet whose sound lives somewhere between the Libertines and Tokyo Police Club. Though post-Strokes bubblegum rock bands are arguably a dime a dozen, Loose Buttons are among the crop's most promising, primed to become a fixture in the next iteration of their city's alt royalty. "Fell Into a Hole" is the latest single from their forthcoming debut record, a song full of restless drum patterns and kinetic riffs. The song simulates the sort of adrenaline rush induced by cliff jumping, at once suspended yet zooming through the air. The leap itself is terrifying, but you're overrun with a wave of exhilarating relief as you splash into the water.

When it comes to the current state of Loose Buttons, singer Eric Nizgretsky spells it out in a straightforward way: "Spent a decade planning how my life turns out / The band is doing great, we haven't yet sold out," he sings, followed by guest vocals from Forth Wanderers' Ava Trilling. "I think about / How all our friends are getting sober / It freaks me out."

There's a common thread of companionship that runs through the track, with cheeky references to Batman's lifelong companion Alfred Pennyworth as well as right-hand-man Georgie and his fellow "droogs" of A Clockwork Orange. But above all, "Fell Into a Hole" seems to depict a misfit on a mission to become one of the greats. Loose Buttons may just be getting started, but the song proves they're a band to look out for.
