6 Early-2000's Bands You Love To Hate

These bands were awesome, and you know it. Stop denying it.

Reflecting on the bands we used to shamelessly bump in the early aughts can sometimes be a cringe-worthy experience.

We may even join in with our friends as they say things like, "Remember Staind? Boy were those guys terrible!" You'll nod in agreement, maybe throw a quick jab at them yourself, when you know damn well "It's Been Awhile" was the anthem to your first teenage heartbreak. As hard as you try to forget, you never really can. This is by no means a definitive list of guilty pleasure bands, and Nickelback will not make an appearance on this list. Anyone who was truly a fan of early aughts rock, knows that those guys are poser sell outs.

Lifehouse - You And Me (Official Video)

Lifehouse was the peak of adult contemporary radio. "You and Me" was a f*ckin smash. It brought us all to tears. It made us all think about and our two-week-long relationships and being in love with our Geometry teachers. This track made an appearance on all of our burned bootleg CD's that we would slip into the lockers of our crushes. This song was raw passion. It validated all of our hormones as real feelings. It also lied to us in the process. But it's still a f*cking amazing song, and Lifehouse is an amazing band.

Hoobastank

Hoobastank - Born To Lead

Besides "The Reason" being the smash of the century, Hoobastank had a reputation for being hard as s*it. Remember Every Man For Himself? Remember how hard "Born To Lead" was? With the drill sergeant screaming in the background as boots stomped and kept time? Remember how "Inside of You" was definitely about sex but we thought it was just about making out? Remember the passion that was "More Than a Memory?" All of it still rocks, and yes, Hoobastank still makes music.

Shinedown

Shinedown - Second Chance (Official Video)

Shinedown was the peak of post-grunge. Emotional, gritty, passionate, Sound of Madness was the absolute perfect rock record. "Second Chance" was the anthem for our brewing resentment towards our fathers, while "Breaking Inside" made us feel like we could overcome any friend or family drama. They still make music, and it's still hard as f*ck. Popdust even interviewed them recently.

Theory of a Deadman

Theory of a Deadman - No Surprise [OFFICIAL VIDEO]

We used to love the look on our friend's faces when we'd say the name Theory of a Deadman. Despite being a Nickelback carbon copy, the group felt exclusive, almost underground, when they hit the post-grunge scene. "No Surprise" made us teenage boys all feel like we were tough bachelors, not tolerating no shit from heartbroken females. These guys still make music too, but they have taken a particularly depressing dive into crafting anthems for incels.

Seether

Seether - Fake It (Official Music Video)

One of the darker post-grunge bands, Seether crafted songs that were melodically catchy, but lyrically gothic. For some reason, the balance worked, and they made us all feel that depression was cool, and that we were all cool for slowly losing our minds. The band hasn't lost a step, and their recent album, Poison the Parish, was praised by rock critics.

3 Doors Down

3 Doors Down - Here Without You (Official Video)

The sheer power of "Here Without You" is impossible to put into words. It's almost a hymn, it's power rivaling that of God Almighty himself. Every single person reading this cried to "Here Without You," and if you didn't then you clearly don't know what real heartbreak is. 3 Doors Down was the coolest band for a moment, and yes, they're still making "rock" music, even in 2019.
