PREMIERE | Violet Rose Debuts Two New Singles, 'Gravity' and 'Fame'

Violet Rose announces her arrival in a big, big way

Los Angeles-based Violet Rose releases two new singles today. One is a cover of David Bowie's "Fame," the other is "Gravity," the first song she wrote after arriving in Los Angeles from Pennsylvania.

While growing up in a small town in western Pennsylvania, Violet Rose was always listening, listening to Janis Joplin, Aliyah, Sade, and Billie Holiday. She wanted to sing with the same intensity and passionate expression.

"The singers I adore the most, are the vocalists that can make you feel their raw pain when they sing," says Rose.

Knowing it would take determination, dedication, and hard work, she submerged herself in voice lessons, piano, music theory, musical theater, and dance. Later, she entered music school in Boston, perfecting her skills and delving into the business of music. After graduating, she toured. In 2015, she released her debut music video, "Working Hard," followed by her first EP, Plastic, in 2017.

Her cover of "Fame" infuses Bowie's pop/funk song with futuristic electro-pop flavors and kaleidoscopic colors rife with swooshing, whizzing energy. The heavy potency of the rhythm laces the music with measured industrial momentum, dark and raw as if marinated in a high-tech soup seething and sparking with black electricity.

By transforming the texture, harmonics, and rhythm of the tune, Rose pulls off the almost impossible task of restyling a legendary song.

"Gravity" opens with ominously pulsing synths flowing into a ballad of titanic subterranean colors, full of harmonic spectacle and mystery. The feel and mood of the music thrums with thick, opaque dynamism, as well as dangerous, muscular sensuality. Surfacing synths inject visceral tension, as the bassline rises.

Affluent tones and burnished textures define Rose's captivating voice. Hints of vulnerability add lushness to her sumptuous tones, imparting posh erotic timbres. This is a diva's voice, on par with Adele's, evocative and impressively proximate.

With her reimagining of "Fame" and the dazzling sonic impetus of "Gravity," Violet Rose proclaims her presence in a grand manner. She has arrived and is a force to be reckoned with.
