Alt-Pop Duo joan Drop New Single “space” Ahead of Album this won’t last forever
Alt-pop duo joan—Alan Benjamin Thomas and Steven Rutherford—are back with a dreamy new single, “space,” out now. The track offers fans another glimpse of their anticipated new album, this won’t last forever, arriving September 25 via Photo Finish Records.
“This is a love song not just about someone, but about the space and energy they have around them when they’re near,” the duo share. “There’s something extremely powerful about the non-physical aspects of love, and this song is trying to capture that. This song is part of the endless search to try to put into words how much they mean to us.”
Accompanied by a new music video, “space” follows recent singles “lucid dreaming,” “alibi” and “body language.” The duo also co-wrote and produced K-pop group EPEX’s single “so nice,” expanding their global footprint. Already released singles from the album also include, “face” “magic” “eyes” and “heartbodymindsoul.”
Earlier this year, joan completed their close friends tour before hitting the road with Bloc Party for a run of summer dates. With over 200 million global streams and more than one million monthly listeners, the Arkansas-born duo have built an international fanbase drawn to their mix of heartfelt lyrics and nostalgic alt-pop soundscapes.
From their breakout debut EP portra to their acclaimed full-length superglue—and sold-out shows spanning Asia to the U.S.—joan continue carving out a unique lane in alternative pop, blending vulnerability, energy, and undeniable hooks. Their extensive touring history includes runs with MisterWives, COIN, The Aces, and Jeremy Zucker, as well as headline shows across Asia—playing 15,000+ capacity venues in the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
