Sydney, Australia–based pop artist Lara D embraces her identity with “Habibi,” an emotional fusion of contemporary pop, Afro-R&B and rhythmic world influences.
The title comes from the Arabic word meaning “my love,” “my darling” or “my beloved”—a term that represents warmth, affection and deep connection. Created in 2023, the song marked a defining moment when Lara began bringing her heritage more intentionally into her music.
“Habibi represents the moment I gave myself permission to embrace every part of who I am—as both an artist and a person,” Lara explains. “I wanted listeners to feel connected to who I am, where I come from and the stories that have shaped me.”
This is her first release with Akademy Records and is Co-written and Co-produced with Arden and songwriter PopGod, “Habibi” combines smooth R&B melodies, infectious rhythms and subtle cultural influences to create an intimate yet cinematic sound.
