A Fond Farewell to Margot Kidder, Best Known as Superman’s “Lois Lane”

At 69, the Actress Passed Peacefully in Her Sleep

From actress to activist to angel...

Surely Superman himself, the late Christopher Reeve looked over his former co-star, Margot Kidder as she took her last breath on May 13th. Best known as the Superman character Lois Lane, the talented and beautiful actress died at her Montana home at the age of 69.

Kidder was an instant sensation when she graced the big screen in 1978's Superman and its sequels, but she got her start in the business in her homeland of Canada, where she acted on television and had her debut movie role in The Best Damn Fiddler from Calabogie to Kaladar.

From superhero films to thrillers, Kidder was a hit in The Amityville Horror, proving her diversity and talent at her craft. Although she suffered with bipolar disorder and was reportedly homeless for a period in 1996, Kidder reclaimed her life, got the help she needed, and began to help others in return. All the while landing TV roles on shows including Smallville, Brothers & Sisters, Boston Common, and The L Word.

Kidder became an activist in the early 2000s, leading anti-war campaigns and fighting for the environment and other political issues. She also used her experience with her mental health struggles to become a public speaker for mental health advocacy.

The cause of Kidder's death has not been reported, but it has been confirmed that she passed in peace. May she forever rest that way too. Our favorite on-screen superhero couple will live on in our hearts and minds as we recall their chemistry in Superman.

Lois Lane gave Superman a run for his money and Margot Kidder gave it a good run. From actress to activist to angel… a final farewell to a fine woman.
