The Radio Dept. Return with "The Absence of Birds"

It's the Swedish duo's first new song since 2018.

Since forming in 2001, Swedish duo the Radio Dept. have become a cult favorite in the modern era of dream pop.

It's been nearly four years since Johan Duncanson and Martin Carlberg released their last album. Since then, they've reissued some of their previous beloved discography with a handful of new songs. Today, the Radio Dept. is finally back with their latest track, the solemn "The Absence of Birds."

According to the band, "The Absence of Birds" grapples with the emptiness of missing someone and forcing yourself to make changes in your life to adapt to the loneliness. "These are things I shouldn't do / These are things I shouldn't say / Just wish I was close to you," goes the song's wistful chorus. "The Absence of Birds" provides a gentle reminder that, oftentimes, we're the ones holding ourselves back from moving on.
