The Nashville trio’s latest single, “Saturn,” finds the band stepping outside its usual sound while keeping the emotional songwriting and melodic instincts that have defined them. Built around shimmering synths and a dreamy production style, the track looks back at a relationship that didn’t work out—and the lingering questions that come with it.

“You used to hold me on your front porch / Oh, tell me baby what was that for?” Jansen Hogan sings, turning a specific memory into a larger question about what went wrong.

“Saturn” is a preview of The Wldlfe’s upcoming album Revolver, following a series of single releases including “Lips” and “Parachute.” The album arrives October 2 via Riser House Records and represents a period of experimentation for the band, which also includes guitarist/vocalist Carson Hogan and bassist Jack Crane.

The song began with an unusual lyrical idea.

“We had brought a lyrical idea to LA that at the time was simply ‘if I could steal the ring of saturn and put it on your hand,”Jansen Hogan explains.

From there, the concept pushed the band toward a sound they hadn’t previously explored.

“The idea of ‘Saturn’ naturally felt sci-fi and more experimental for us and led us down a road sonically that we haven’t really tried yet,” he says.

One of the song’s most memorable lines came together almost as an afterthought. Hogan remembers repeatedly singing, “I could’ve been everything you wanted if I was your man,” before the band realized it belonged in the song.

“We’re particularly proud of this one because we tried something out of the ordinary for us and landed on something special,” Hogan says.

That willingness to follow an idea somewhere unexpected is central to Revolver. After years of releasing music and touring, The Wldlfe approached the album with more room to experiment and refine their ideas. Rather than worrying about fitting into a particular sound, the band focused on following the songs.

Their influences stretch from ’80s rock and Top 40 pop to alternative and indie, resulting in a record that pairs catchy melodies with the emotional honesty that has long been part of The Wldlfe’s music.

The new direction comes after a steady rise for the band. Since forming, The Wldlfe have released several EPs and the 2024 full-length Heaven Is a Place, while building more than 125 million global streams and selling out shows across North America. Along the way, they’ve shared stages with artists including The Band Camino, Flor, Knox, Nightly, and COIN.

Now, Revolver gives the band an opportunity to push that momentum somewhere new.

The Wldlfe will support the album with their “Long Way Home” headline tour, beginning October 17 at The Social in Orlando. The 23-date run includes stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and more before wrapping December 4 at Nashville’s Basement East.

With “Saturn,” The Wldlfe are proving that evolving doesn’t necessarily mean leaving everything behind. Sometimes it means taking what already works—the melodies, the honesty, the chemistry—and giving yourself permission to see what else you can do with it.
