Lizzo Calls Out Fat-Shamers on TikTok: "I'm Not Working Out to Have Your Ideal Body Type"

The musician shared a TikTok of her workout routine, explaining that health isn't just about what you look like.

In the past couple of years, Lizzo has gone from being an underground favorite into a full-blown pop star.

The flautist/rapper/singer extraordinaire hasn't always been 100 percent confident in her skin, but she's come to be an icon of body positivity. Despite being criticized for her weight, Lizzo doesn't feel the need to conform to other people's ideals and expectations, and she shared a powerful TikTok calling out those who so pathetically continue to fat-shame her.

"So I've been working out consistently for the last five years," Lizzo said in a voiceover accompanying clips of her doing various cardio workouts. "It may come as a surprise to some of y'all that I'm not working out to have your ideal body type. I'm working out to have my ideal body type. And you know what type that is? None of your f--king business. Because you know what? I am beautiful, I am strong, I do my job, and I stay on my job."

She continued: "Health is not just determined by what you look like on the outside. Health is also what happens on the inside. And a lot of y'all need to do a f--king cleanse for your insides."

More progressive frameworks of health and fitness, such as the Health at Every Size Approach, are challenging the antiquated understanding that only thin bodies can be healthy. While Lizzo is often ridiculed for her weight, just a few seconds of her high-powered live performances prove that she's in better shape than most of America, and her at-home workout routine is much-needed motivation to get our butts off the couch during quarantine.
