Meek Mill To Be Released From Prison

"The past five months have been a nightmare..."

After being incarcerated for five months, Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill was released from prison this afternoon.

Born Robert Rihmeek Williams, Meek Mill was sentenced to two to four years for violating his probation from a 2009 drug and gun charge. Many felt that the sentencing was harsh including the prosecution. Judge Genece Brinkley who presided over Meek's case has been accused of having a personal vendetta against the Philly MC. Rumors have circulated that Brinkley wanted Meek to abandon his management, Roc Nation, and sign with a local Philadelphia manager who was a personal friend of Brinkley's.

During his incarceration. Meek received support from the likes of Jay-Z, Kevin Hart, and Philadelphia 76ers owner Michael Rubin. Celebrities and fans alike took to the streets and #FreeMeekMill became the battle cry for those who felt the rapper's probation violation didn't fit the lengthy sentence that was handed down to him. Upon receiving the news of his release the rapper took to his official Twitter account to address his family, friends, and legions of fans who have supported him through this tough time.

Since his signing to rap's self-appointed boss Rick Ross' label Maybach Music Group (MMG for short), Meek has been one of the most energetic spitters in hip-hop today. His raw delivery and passion can be heard in such songs as "Ima Boss" and the intro to his major label debut "Dreams and Nightmares" which became a proverbial fight song for the Philadelphia Eagles on their run to their first Super Bowl win in franchise history.

Before being sentenced to jail, Meek released his third album, Wins and Losses. This album came on the heels of his break up with hip-hop/pop megastar Nicki Minaj, and his beef with Drake.

Now that Meek is out of the slammer, What's next for Philly's favorite son?
