Erin Gibney has been making music in the country-pop realm for a handful of years now, and each release gives listeners a new angle of what makes the Nashville-based singer-songwriter tick. Known for her fresh takes on relationships and lyrics that have storytelling depth, she explores all of the aspects of 20-something life in the modern day. Her latest single, “Dangerous,” released in late November, is a slow-burn, twangy-pop strut of confidence and brash grit. Gibney’s maturation as an artist and a songwriter has been inspiring to witness, with her determination and personality on display for all who listen. We sat down recently to discuss the new single, her musical heroes, and how what she wanted to be when she was little has shaped her songwriting.

Hi, Erin! You have an amazing new song that just came out in November called “Dangerous.” What was the inspiration behind this one for you?

I wrote this song as a fun way to step outside of my normal writing style and write from a place of true and genuine confidence. After I left my long-term relationship, I remember feeling good about myself for the first time in a long time. I was meeting new people, going out with my friends, and feeling excited about the future. This song channels that energy in a way I have never done before.

Your music, because the topics are so personal and relatable, is also very cathartic for listeners. We get a sense of support from knowing that we’re not the only ones going through these kinds of things. What do you hope this single’s message is to listeners? And what did writing it bring to you?

I hope this song gives my listeners a sense of confidence. I wrote this song about a story of meeting a guy at a bar who notoriously can’t be tied down. In the story, the guy meets his match with the main character. This song makes me feel unstoppable when I sing it, and I hope it brings the same energy to my listeners. It is the perfect pre-game, hot girl walk, etc. song!

While it’s clear that your music falls into the country category, you also have a decidedly pop take on things. Was that a conscious decision, and/or is that just where your music is landing really organically right now? What aspects do you pull from both genres and incorporate into your songs?

The decision to lean both pop and country has been something I have always wanted to do! My idols – Kelsea Ballerini, Taylor Swift, and Shania Twain – paved the path for mixing genres, and I knew from a young age it was something I wanted to try as well. I definitely pull the songwriting aspect from country, but lean the melody and production to pop.

What kind of a vibe were you going for on this song when you recorded it? Do you think you ended up with a song that sounds like you expected it to sound? If so, how so, and if not, what’s different about it?

I actually drew a lot of inspiration for this song from “Dangerous Woman” by Ariana Grande. I felt like we were missing a country-style song that held the same confidence-boosting feel to it. Landing on the title “Dangerous” was just a happy accident that actually ended up honoring its original goal.

Who joined you in the studio for this one?

I wrote this song with Kipp Williams, who is also the producer on the track. Kipp really helped me step outside my comfort zone on this song and create something that I am really proud to bring into the world.

You have become known for really personal lyrics, and you always seem to match them with music that really makes them stand out and get noticed. Do you tend to be a lyrics-first sort of writer, or how do your songs come together?

I am definitely a lyrics-first writer. My first aspiration as a little kid was to be an author, so I have always had an affinity for words. I am a true believer that the lyrics make a song, and so I always hold a lot of weight with them. I usually start writing a song at my piano late at night and then bring the song idea to a writer’s room later on.

Which other artists are current favorites? Who’s on repeat lately when you listen, and whose music has been inspiring the music that you make?

Right now, “The Life of a Showgirl” by Taylor Swift has been on repeat! I am also a huge Kelsea Ballerini fan and love her latest record, “Patterns.”

You are really active on TikTok. What does your profile offer to followers and what can they expect from you on there?

I share a mix of advice, music, playlists, and everyday life. It really is just a peek into who I am on the day-to-day. I love talking about my experiences with dating, being in my 20s, pop culture, etc.

We can’t get enough of your music, and we hope there is more new stuff coming in 2026. What can fans look forward to next year from you?

I am so excited for the new music that is coming in 2026, and there is lots of it! I have so many new songs that I am so proud of and that feel like a fresh new chapter for me. Hopefully, I will be getting back on the road in the summer as well!
