Kendrick Lamar's "DAMN." wins Pulitzer Prize

Compton's Rap God adds prestigious award to list of accolades.

Kendrick Lamar is slowly running out of reasons to be "HUMBLE."

On Monday afternoon, Lamar became the recipient of a Pulitzer Prize in Music for his album "DAMN.". This would make K. Dot the first non-classical or jazz artist to win the illustrious award. The timing couldn't be any more perfect since "DAMN." was released exactly one year ago on Saturday.

Since his mainstream debut back in 2012, Kendrick Lamar has been one of the torchbearers for today's generation of Hip-Hop. His debut album "Good Kid, M.A.A.D City" is considered a modern-day classic and it cemented Lamar as not only a fierce emcee, but a once in a lifetime talent with an unparalleled creative vision. This album would set the stage for what would be one of the most meteoric rises in the genre's history.

Kendrick would captivate the masses once again with his sophomore release "To Pimp A Butterfly" in 2015. The album was considered to be an "experimental" body of work as it flirted with other genres of music such as jazz and funk. "Butterfly..." was much more polarizing than its predecessor, but nonetheless it performed very well commercially, and won Best Rap Album at the 2016 GRAMMYS.

Kendrick has had an amazing 2018 thus far. "DAMN." has won an American Music Award for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album and a GRAMMY for Best Rap Album. The man known as Kung-Fu Kenny also executive produced the soundtrack to the box-office behemoth that is Marvel's "Black Panther".

"DAMN." also features guest appearances from Rihanna and U2

You can catch Kendrick Lamar and his TDE label mates on tour this summer on "The Championship Tour".
