Melissa Rivers Files Huge Lawsuit Against Clinic For Joan Rivers' Death

Melissa Rivers is filing a multimillion dollar lawsuit against the clinic and doctors she considers responsible for Joan Rivers' death.

Joan passed away in September 2014 from surgery-related complications, and Melissa is finally suing Yorkville Endoscopy, and the doctors who negligently performed surgery on her mother, for gross medical malpractice.

According to court documents, the doctors didn't perform a tracheotomy on 81-year-old Joan when she stopped breathing after an unplanned biopsy was performed.

"The level of medical mismanagement, incompetency, disrespect and outrageous behavior is shocking and frankly, almost incomprehensible," Melissa wrote in the lawsuit. “Not only did my mother deserve better, every patient deserves better."

Also being sued is Joan's personal doctor Gwen Korovin, who apparently shouldn't have even been the the room and passed the time taking selfies of an unconscious Joan. When things started to go badly wrong, Korovin straight up just abandoned Joan because she knew she'd get in trouble for being there in the first place and "wanted to avoid getting caught."

UGH.

“Had doctors acted as physicians for Joan Rivers instead of groupies, Joan Rivers would have been doing Fashion Police last week,” Melissa’s lawyer Jeffrey Bloom, told the New York Daily News.

Yorkville Endoscopy are apparently set to lose their accreditation at the end of the month - go get 'em, Melissa!

Melissa Rivers Inherits Over $100 Million From Joan Rivers' Estate

Melissa Rivers has inherited over $100 million - the bulk of her late mother Joan Rivers' estate.

That includes $75 million in cash and Joan's Upper East Side condo in New York, which is worth $35 million. Melissa's 13-year-old son Cooper has his own inheritance from his grandmother, reports Us.

As Popdust previously reported, Joan's autopsy results show she died of complications associated with surgery - in other words, the death was entirely preventable.

"We continue to be saddened by our tragic loss," Melissa tweeted when the news broke. "No further comment at this time."

She was clearly touched by the huge outpouring of love and remembrance from the public, thanking everyone for their kind thoughts and wishes.

“As my son Cooper and I mourn the loss of my mother, we want to thank everyone for the beautiful cards and flowers conveying heartfelt messages and condolences, which continue to arrive from around the world and through social media. My mother would have been overwhelmed by the scope and depth of the love that people have expressed for her. It is certainly helping to lift our spirits during this time,” the 46-year-old said.

“We are forever grateful for your kindness and support in continuing to honor my mother’s legacy, and for remembering the joy and laughter that she brought to so many.”

We're guessing some huge, huge wrongful death lawsuits are in the works - and Melissa now has the money to really go for it.

Joan Rivers Autopsy Results Released, Cause Of Death Revealed

Joan Rivers died of complications resulting from surgery, her official autopsy confirms.

The legendary comedienne passed away on Sep 4 in New York City, after what should have been a routine procedure.

"OCME [Office of the Chief Medical Examiner] has completed its investigation. The cause of Ms. Rivers’ death is anoxic encephalopathy due to hypoxic arrest during laryngoscopy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with propofol sedation for evaluation of voice changes and gastroesophageal reflux disease. The manner of death is therapeutic complication," spokeswoman Julie Bolcer said in a statement via The Hollywood Reporter. "The classification of a death as a therapeutic complication means that the death resulted from a predictable complication of medical therapy."

Joan's daughter Melissa Rivers also released a statement thanking everyone for sending love to the family.

"We continue to be saddened by our tragic loss and grateful for the enormous outpouring of love and support from around the world. We have no further comment at this time."

Joan Rivers—Doctor Allegedly Taking Selfies During Surgery Leading To Her Death

Joan Rivers's doctor was allegedly taking selfies during her throat surgery earlier this month.

As Popdust previously reported, the medical director at Yorkville Endoscopy was fired after Joan died from what should have been a straightforward medical procedure. The comedienne stopped breathing during throat surgery and was rushed to Mount Sinai, where she only lived another week.

Now CNN is reporting that not only did Joan's doctor perform an unauthorized biopsy of her throat but shockingly took a selfie while the 81-year-old was under anesthesia.

"Yorkville has said and still says that a biopsy of the vocal cords was never attempted or done at its site ever," the clinic says in a statement to People. "HIPAA [Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act] laws prevent us from disclosing any information about patients or their procedures."

If this is true, Joan's doctor should at the very least be struck off the medical register and banned from working again, or even face jail time. Absolutely despicable!

Joan Rivers passed away due to complications from throat surgery at Yorkville Endoscopy in New York, and now the medical director there has been fired.

"BREAKING: Medical director of Yorkville Endoscopy where #JoanRivers went to cardiac arrest is out," tweeted ABC News. "He is no longer performing procedures at the clinic."

As Popdust previously reported, Joan stopped breathing while undergoing an outpatient procedure on Aug 28 and was rushed to Mount Sinai hospital. She died one week later, on Sep 4, with reports that she died from an unplanned biopsy at Yorkville.

Joan Rivers—Funeral To Be Held At New York Jewish Temple

Joan Rivers' funeral will be held at a Reform Jewish synagogue in her home town of New York.

The memorial is being planned for Sunday, Sept. 7 at Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan, and is strictly invitation only. The general public and press will not be allowed to attend (Joan would have LOVED such an exclusive event, no?).

Now that's all well and good, but we would like to remind those in charge Joan had some very specific wishes for her own funeral:

"I want Craft services, I want paparazzi and I want publicists making a scene! I want it to be Hollywood all the way. I don't want some rabbi rambling on; I want Meryl Streep crying, in five different accents. I don't want a eulogy; I want Bobby Vinton to pick up my head and sing 'Mr. Lonely.' I want to look gorgeous, better dead than I do alive. I want to be buried in a Valentino gown and I want Harry Winston to make me a toe tag. And I want a wind machine so that even in the casket my hair is blowing just like Beyonce's."
