Edgar Wright Has a First Draft of "Baby Driver 2"

Pretty exciting if you're a fan of good movies.

Baby Driver was arguably one of the best movies of 2017.

It was definitely the best original concept, combining intense action sequences with optimal music and vibrant color in a way that only a visionary director like Edgar Wright could.

So when Wright broke the news to Empirethat he had his first draft of the sequel completed, fans were excited.

The first movie was a passion project for Wright, developed over the course of two decades. This makes sense considering it's the kind of movie that studios tend to avoid without an incredibly trusted director at the helm–a simple premise which requires masterful execution.

The plot follows Baby (Ansel Elgort), an Atlanta-based getaway driver who suffers from tinnitus, which forces him to constantly listen to music through his earbuds. He falls in love with a waitress named Debora (Lily James), and the two decide to flee the city together. But Baby owes debts to gang leader Doc (Kevin Spacey...booooooo) and his crew (Jon Hamm and Jamie Foxx), so if he wants to escape, he needs to drive for one final heist.

See, it's such a simple concept that, with a lot of directors, it could have been a bland, generic heist movie.

Luckily, Edgar Wright isn't most directors. Watch how he turns Baby's daily coffee run into a masterclass in cinematography—a long take that makes us feel the incredible importance of Baby's music.

Considering how the previous movie ended (no spoilers here), it will be very interesting to see how Edgar Wright plans to tackle a sequel.

That being said, nothing has been greenlit yet. Edgar Wright is currently busy working on a female-led psychological horror movie, so don't expect any more updates for the time being.

In the meantime, check out the first Baby Driver if you haven't seen it yet. It's a fantastic watch.
