Modern Diet Takes You Into Their Chaotic World
Each song is void of predictability and carries a massive presence.
Dripping in poeticism and hipster angst, New York-based Modern Diet only creates when they want to, which lead singer Jake Cheriff sincerely apologizes for.
"Well, I finally got around to mixing those tracks," Cheriff wrote in a letter to "the void" on Facebook. "Why did it take so long? I don't know...Since you asked, I guess it was a combination of personal hang-ups and professional obstacles." Cheriff hopes people are still interested in hearing what Modern Diet has to say. "I won't blame you if you don't remember. It has been quite some time, and I know you have a ton of Instagram posts and Bandcamp demos to review," Cheriff writes. Titled Sit Down And Dance, the group's latest EP flourishes, each song void of predictability and carrying a massive presence.
The band's fluid songwriting and lush ambiance vividly transport the listener into their world. "Side Effects" opens with layered guitars and subtle electro synths that all give the track a forward momentum with the help of Cheriff's shifting vocals. "City" is a rocking dystopian anthem that draws flattering comparisons to Grizzly Bear without ever sounding fraudulent. "In C Minor" is a slow-burning ode to an argumentative lover that shifts chaotically, like the manic relationship it's dissecting. "Today, this music is as strange to me as the future has turned out to be," Cheriff wrote in his letter. While he's acknowledged that this EP is simply meant for the members of Modern Diet to each "get over themselves," the band, in turn, delivers their most concise work to date and encapsulates the self-reflection the guys are looking for. Check out the new EP below.
