Splendid Spoon - Our Editors’ New Favorite Subscription

An orange wellness shot from Splendid Spoon

In a world packed with a million different meal delivery services, having fresh and tasty meals delivered right to the front door is no longer a far-fetched dream. Yet, despite such a saturated market, it still isn't easy to find the right subscription for your health and lifestyle.

With so many of our favorite publications giving Splendid Spoon their stamp of approval, our editors simply had to check them out.

"Splendid Spoon strives to make healthy eating simple, by delivering smoothies, soups, grain bowls, and noodles fresh to your door. [They] prioritize organic produce and offer options compatible with various diets such as Whole30, high-protein, and WW Approved." - Thrillist

After our editors did a deep dive, it seemed like Splendid Spoon checked everything off our list. But would the meals taste as good as they look? A few of our editors had experimented with other not-so-great plant-based companies, so they weren't hopeful.

Here's how their time with Splendid Spoon went:

Marla Wilson, Lifestyle Editor

What’s your typical day-to-day eating pattern?

For most of my life, I ate vegetarian, so I usually start each day off with a cup of black coffee and a bowl of my favorite fruits (AKA whatever’s in season at my local grocery store). I mostly have a light lunch due to my busy work schedule. And then suddenly it’s the end of the day. So, I whip up pasta and veggies or something similar that’s simple.

How’d you enjoy Splendid Spoon?

Finally, a service where I can eat everything on the menu. Splendid Spoon offers healthy AND delicious, protein-rich vegan shakes, soups, and meals. I always assumed that most meal delivery services send the same bland, unhealthy meals week after week. Not only are all of Splendid Spoon’s meals vegan, but they're also gluten-free, GMO-free, and low in sugar and sodium, which works well with my other dietary needs. My favorites are their Vegetable Bolognese Bowl and Moroccan Lentil soup.

Would you subscribe?

Sure, I’d subscribe in a heartbeat! With Splendid Spoon, I expanded my palate to include international dishes that are far richer and tastier than my lackluster, go-to pasta dish. Thanks to Splendid Spoon I have a lot more personal time, now that I don’t spend half my evenings and weekends cooking.

Ben Duff, Special Projects Editor

How often did you cook at home throughout the week?

I never made time to cook during my work week. Even when I’d have guests over, I never touched anything in my kitchen. Instead, I went with more convenient options like overpriced takeout or everyone's favorite thing to hate, frozen pizza.

What was your experience with Splendid Spoon?

What I love the most is how satisfied I feel after each meal. Before my Splendid Spoon trial week, I assumed that healthy meal delivery services delivered tiny portions of tasteless food that wouldn't put a dent in my appetite. Splendid Spoon’s menu features delicious dishes like the Kimchi Fried Quinoa and Chocolate Cherry Smoothie which are full of nutritious ingredients that keep me full and energized throughout the day. Add to that, there’s no meal prep involved, I just store them in the fridge and warm them up when I’m hungry.

Would you subscribe?

I don't have many subscriptions because I can’t stand being locked into a long-term plan. However, Splendid Spoon's subscription puts me in control, giving me the option to skip or opt-out if my needs or schedule change. Subscribing would be a no-brainer for me!

Isabelle Harding, Home and Garden Editor

What’s your typical day-to-day eating pattern?

As a parent of three kids, I get my meals in when I can. Oftentimes, that means grazing on whatever mac-n-cheese or chicken nuggets I cook for the kids. Though I aim to eat healthier, I rarely have time to cook for my picky little ones, and then make a separate meal for myself. For example, I wasn’t eating anything as yummy or as good for me as Splendid Spoon’s Creamy Butternut Squash Noodles.

What surprised you the most about this service?

One of the things I'm always mindful of is price. I'm sure I'm not the only parent who likes to save where I can - I don't have to tell anyone how expensive college is! I’m still so shocked everything from Splendid Spoon was super affordable, with meals starting around $8 a serving. Let me just say, I've spent more than $10 bucks getting my children their go-to "kids meal" from our favorite fast food place.

Would you use Splendid Spoon again?

I’d subscribe to Splendid Spoon because I’m sick of settling for whatever fast food my kids are having night after night. No more worrying about cooking. When I’m hungry now I grab a smoothie from the fridge or warm up a Coconut curry rice bowl or a bowl of Cauliflower Tikka Soup. Not only does Splendid Spoon send me convenient, high-quality meals, smoothies, and soups, but I no longer have to break the bank. I’d call this an amazing solution for any parent even half as busy as I am.

From our editors' experiences, it's clear that Splendid Spoon is a meal kit delivery service that includes fresh, global cuisines that are packed with nutritious superfoods.
