Moms talking about their lust for wine is a bit cliché these days, but for some reason those funny wine memes never ever get old. I love getting a funny text from my girlfriends at 8:00 am with an image of a woman downing a full bottle of wine while I'm desperately trying to get the kids dressed and out of the house. For a moment, I am laughing because I know my friends are going through the same thing. A mom's job is seemingly endless, and wine reminds us to take time for ourselves to relax and enjoy the day. So when one of my friends told me about Tasting Room, the wine delivery service that delivers you wine based on your personal preferences, I was excited to try it. Why is this so genius? Hmm, let me count the ways.
Moms share everything - our food, our space, our beds, and rarely does anyone ask what we want to eat, or what we want to do. A service that not only delivers the wine to us, but also cares about what each of us like – that's where it gets even better. I much prefer getting my wine delivered over going to the liquor store, which doesn't always have the best selection, or the best prices. Liquor stores are focused on volume and margin (it's not their fault rent is expensive) leaving us reaching for the yellow-labeled bottle with the kangaroo they stick in the front of the store. It also takes 20 minutes to get everyone in the car each time, and I look like a lush carting around wine and two little kids. Not to mention trying to carry a toddler in one hand with a case of wine in the other. Plus, store employees haven't a clue which wines we'll enjoy so we don't always end up with the best selection.
Tasting Room operates by letting you sample different types of wine with their exclusive Tasting Kit, which contains six sample-size bottles of wine, and makes for a fun night in. Upon tasting, I logged onto the site and was guided through an engaging tasting where I simply clicked on the ones I preferred in head-to-head matchups and rated them. Once I was done, I got my Wine Profile right away, which determined that I like fresh, zesty whites, and big, opulent reds in the red category.
A few days later, Tasting Room sent me a variety case of wine with bottles tailored to my palate for about $12 a bottle. The wines come direct from the vineyard, which makes them more affordable than buying them in store. I'm always looking for better alternatives to Chardonnay so when I discovered two delicious Sauv Blancs from New Zealand, and Albarino from Spain in my shipment, I was thrilled.
The experience not only feels luxurious, but it's been a lot of fun. I'm learning what I like, my palate is becoming more refined, and I'm getting to try new wines too. Plus, I always have the best wine in the house without the markup. I think all moms can use a little help, so if someone wants to send me really good wine to make my day a little easier, I'm in. It's well worth it at under $10 to join (that gets you the tasting kit), and you can cancel at anytime.
