Class is in session with some of our favorite films to kick off the first week of school.
In Popdust's column, Box Office Breakdown, we aim to inform you of the top flicks to check out every weekend depending on what you're in the mood to enjoy. Looking to laugh? What about having your pants scared off? Maybe you just need a little love? Whatever the case may be, we have you covered. Take a peek at our top picks for this week…
A mother awakes following a brutal attack that killed her husband and daughter. She becomes frustrated with the government when they decide not to persecute the murderers, so she goes inside the system to take them down herself. After spending years in hiding, planning for how to get revenge, she sets out on a deadly quest to finally dish out punishment.
It is a little early for Halloween but I suppose it is never too early to get a head start on your horror flicks for the season. A nun commits suicide and sets off a chain of events, from a priest revisiting his tormented past to a novitiate on her last vows. They are meant to be investigating the situation but they are about to uncover a dark secret that will put their faith and their souls in jeopardy.
I guess summer is still in full swing, at least if is for this showing. A young boy travels across the country to join a junior lifeguard program and gets an education in a lot more than saving lives. From standing up to bullies, to getting the girl of your early teenage dreams, this is a flick all about what it means to be young and figuring out the world plus where you fit in within it.
You thought every story from the night of the 2016 election came out, but this movie proves otherwise. On that confusing November night, a Los Angeles club promoter makes a connection with a Midwestern woman. The two will have an empowering effect on one another as their conversation encourages them both to go for their dreams.
And our ⭐️ TOP PICK ⭐️ ...
Ah, high school, the place where everything sucks for everyone. Sierra Burgess is dreaming Stanford, except she is not sure what will set her apart from the crowd. Pondering this problem gets set a little off course when one of the cutest boys in school accidentally gets her number confused with the hot girl...and their conversation is a great. What is a loser to do now?
Really like a film you've seen or know of one coming out soon that we should check out? Shoot me an email and let me know!
Rachel A.G. Gilman is a writer, a former radio producer, and probably the girl wearing the Kinks shirt. She is the creator of The Rational Creature and suggests you check it out. Also visit her website for more.
